Who has volunteered?
I volunteer at a local hospital and yes, had to submit the application with the questionnaire and they ran a background check. I also had to have proof of immunizations, etc...It's a process but they explained to me that they have to be sure people really want it and aren't just looking for access to the hospital...some security issues. I have been assigned to the CTU and the ICU. I work every day of the week right now since school hasn't started. After school starts I will work when I can and they said they will work with my class schedule.

I just have to know NOW! Really?
There are many posts/conversations on this forum that seem to get recycled every so often and everyday there are posts about the NCLEX and how no one has the patience to wait for the results. I can see how it can be frustrating to everyone to see yet another post about "why can't I find a job" or "dying to know if I passed" or even "there's no nursing shortage." I see both sides. It's a public forum and it's okay to post what's on your mind. Yes, it is aggravating to wait for the results but if you need the results ASAP then you should just pay the extra charge and get the faster answer. If not be patient. Get some rest, relish in the accomplishment of getting through school and having taken the test. When you finally get the answer you were waiting for it will make the wait worth it! Good luck to everyone taking the test soon and congratulations to those that have their results and got the best news ever!! :)

Extremely Overweight Nurses
I am not a nurse yet, just a student but I have been a patient before and I can tell you from that perspective I didn't care if my nurses were overweight or not. I just wanted to be treated and to get better. Most patients do not look at health care professionals as role models. If you tell an overweight patient that they need to lose weight to avoid more medical issues, guess what? They KNOW that already. Most overweight people in this day and age have that knowledge. Losing weight is hard for people to do! However, that being said I do believe that health care professionals should set a good example for people. Just like other professionals, lawyers, cops, judges and teaches. But people are only human no one is perfect. You only need to watch the news to see that.

CNA Advice?
In Missouri, my CNA program is $850 including text book and supplies. Missouri requires 175 hours for CNA training. My program breaks down to be 90 hours in theory and 110 hours clinical. My program does more than what is required by the state.

Forceful opinions
For me, since there are other nurses and nursing students in our family most just offer up help or motivation. They know how it is so they know if I need to be left alone to study. They will offer to help with coursework if I have questions or need to pick out supplies or scrubs, stuff like that. The non nursing family members have already been through this with my sister so now they just say let me know if you need anything and congratulate me on following in her footsteps.

Lab coats
My school requires them, too.

No Visitors
At the hospital I volunteer at we have policies in place for that. I am in CTU/ICU and both are locked of course but if someone is not on the friendly list we volunteers steer them away from the nurses/patient area and we talk to them until security arrives to take over and then they explain that the patient cannot be seen and asks them to leave. I personally had to ask an in-law to leave yesterday and luckily it went okay. She understood, but it was because she was a "talker" and was stressing her brother out. This was in CTU and security didn't have to intervene.
