I'm just wondering if it would be a good experience to work at a walk in clinic? I just found an ad for p/t help...and i'm going to apply! I'm just curious if it would be a good insight into nursing or not.

What do you think??

Thanks

Hi future,

What type of part time help is it? I don't know what your background is so is it working in the office as a recepionist/clerk or as a Med Assist?

I spent a summer while in college working as a receptionist/office clerk for a busy Sports Medicine / PT clinic. And a few months as a receptionist for a Home Health Care/Hospice organization. Based on my experience I wouldn't say it is a lot of great experience seeing what nurses do.

Usually we were so busy at the front of the office that we rarely saw the nurses except for when they came up front to get a patient. I did get to talk to a lot of patients and field their calls when they would call in trying to get an appointment but that's about as close as I came to anything medically related.

Maybe the nurses at this clinic would let you see some of the things they do take care of but patient confidentiality is a biggie and like I said, we were always so swamped that we really didn't get to interact with the nurses or docs much.

Good luck though,

Col

Depending on your position it may or may not give you specific nursing insite but you will develop skills R/T interacting with people, especially sick people and will have some insite to the functioning of a medical clinic.

In addition is it is office help now, as you education progresses and your skills develop you also may be able to become an assistant or tech in the clinic.

I'd say, give it a shot and good luck.

Thanks for the replies! The position is a Medical Assistant (i'm currently completing my Medical Office Assistant program).

No big deal...I was just curious!

Thanks again!
