Working as a stripper AND a nurse

Nurses General Nursing

Hello everyone. I was wondering, is it detrimental to my job as an RN if I am also stripping on the side for additional money? Can I be fired for this? I know there are morality issues (for some) and such with this, but is it legally wrong? I live in southern California by the way. The salary as I make as a stripper is far greater than any nursing job out there. The reason I'm also working as a nurse is for the benefits, retirement, and job security when I'm older and can no longer strip.

What are the chances of them finding out that you work as a stripper?

Also, wouldn't the person who sees you working at a strip club be kind of embarrassed about telling on you?

"Hey, boss, I saw Suzy working at the strip club the other night."

Boss, "Oh, I see, so you like to go to strip clubs late at night, eh?"

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

The chances of anyone finding out that you moonlight as an "exotic dancer" are slim to none. What you should worry, however, is the lifestyle.

A lot of the girls start out in the business saying they are doing it for money for school. But they get sucked into the lifestyle and next thing they know they are doing drugs and going home with the customers on "dates".

I found more information about the fired couple's legal case in a legal journal referencing first amendment issues:

Many people operate their own websites for personal interests ranging from genealogy to Mediaography. George and Tracy Miller, for example, were fired from their nursing positions at an Arizona hospital for operating an Internet Mediaography site showing the Millers engaged in sexual intercourse...Hospital computer staff alerted hospital administrators that employees were logging onto the site while at work. The hospital initially suspended the Millers pending investigation, and then terminated them, stating that their website created a hostile environment for the hospital's employees. The hospital noted that the Millers had signed a policy statement that provided employees could be discharged for "immoral or indecent conduct" while on or off duty.

Hey, now the picture becomes more clear. Doesnt matter if they were recruiting at work or not I guess.

Also, I'm sure everyone signs something stateing the same thing. Who really reads all that fine print? And even if you did read it, what are you going to do....refuse to sign a form saying you cant engage in immoral/indecent conduct? What would you say......."I, uh.......like to keep my options open". lol

Not unless she has an unusual face or hairstyle. I guess the clients aren't really focusing on her face.:D

LOL- EXACTLY! ;) That and usually nurses tend to keep hair/makeup very subtle, whereas while dancing- dancers play it up and cake it on- which makes a HUGE difference and is quite effective at changing ones appearance. Unless one were a frequent flier at both locations- chances are it'd go easily under the radar LOL

Or, conversely, not cover them. If we as women are going to work to shape a culture where we are empowered and living fully, we need to support the already vast efforts to normalize BFing in public. I would celebrate if the sex industry lost their monopoly on breast exposure, and breasts became less sexually charged as they are in much of the world.

I find the prudish response to BFing hilarious, especially from proponents of the sex industry.

I don't know about anyone else- but for the time I was breastfeeding, that was MY time with my babies- I wasn't about to exploit that time putting on a show for anyone else to make some political point. It was my time to sit, snuggle and interact with my little ones. Frankly I think it'd be more effective if women just en masse "burned their bras" or in this case- just started going topless. Eventually the big fuss would go away because people would just get used to it and get over themselves... *shrugs* They're breasts- it's not a big deal. :icon_roll

Most clubs would fire a dancer for that behaviour. THEY can lose THEIR licenses for it. That is a HUGE no-no according to the girls I know who do dance. Now are there seedy clubs run by shady characters out there who try to run under the radar prostitution rings? Sure. Is it the norm? No. In most cases business owners want to keep their licenses and stay out of jail. ;)

the trolls are rampant on allnurses. stripper/nurse good, crack dealer/ nurse bad. so those strippers were telling the truth when they said they were putting themselves thru college.

Life is stranger than fiction sometimes. I know of an MD who goes to the Bunny Ranch in Nevada a couple weekends a month to make $$$$.

I considered opening a club once. The people I knew (a few former dancers and a couple bartenders) said the drugs/prostetution pretty much goes on whether you want it there or not.

One bartender said the biggest problem is agency dancers. No matter how well you screen your dancers and keep the funny stuff out, eventually you have to call in agency dancers to cover unfilled spots. He said the agency dancers were the ones who lived the lifestyle a lot of people are describing in here......the drugs, going home on dates with customers etc..........

I could have died a happy little old lady someday NOT knowing there is such a thing as agency dancers, who no doubt make much more than agency nurses.

Make more money.........maybe.

Live a crap lifestyle with no self esteem while all the earnings people like you and I would spend on a house or a vacation goes up thier nose.........definately.

Well, let me be honest... I personally would never consider it. Your patients come from all walks of life and from near and far. So do your patrons at the place that you strip, and that could prove to be a dangerous combination.

Suppose a patient (who had previously been a patron of your club) recognized you when you were working as a nurse. On countless occasions I've been propositioned by my male patients, let alone if they knew what I looked like without any clothes on. That could, honestly, be dangerous.

I'm not going to ridicule your decision to do this, but I think others would agree that you could be putting yourself in an integrity connundrum in addition to placing yourself in more danger than just being a "pretty nurse".

You might say, "well I make sure to strip 20 miles away from where I work so that no one recognizes me" but honestly, --- one day it will happen ---- and let's just hope that it's merely an awkward moment and nothing more. And in the event that something inappropriate or dangerous DID happen, would the money you made be worth it?
