Will an IVC bar me from obtaining my license?

I am a CNA with over six years experience. I have wanted to go to nursing school. I was involuntary commited years. I was wondering if that would deter me from getting my RN license. I do not see it as an issue as far as getting into nursing school, so much as obtaining my license. Any thoughts?

involuntarily committed for a psych issue? if that's the case that will have no effect whatsoever on obtaining a nursing license. that is your past medical history and the BON would have no way of knowing.

I currently work at an acute locked inpatient unit and one of my fellow nurses was actually a patient herself here about 6 years ago before she went to school. :)

I would do some research first and find out.

There are both clinical and licensing questions regarding mental health.

Not 100% sure what they do with that information, so the best course of action is to ask the BON before you apply to school.

In some states (like mine), there is a high level of BON scrutiny of nurses who have any sort of "impairment" - and this includes substance abuse AND mental health. If this is the case in your state, you many have to provide the BON with additional documentation of the fact that you are currently healthy.

I'm not sure of the accuracy of this answer. Boards of Nursing do indeed pay attention to mental health issues.
