Why does ANA not recognize LPN's???

I am a nonANA member, but was seriously considering joining. In speaking with Jamis, I was informed that ANA does not recognize LPN's. This concerns me. What is the ratio of LPN's to RN's practicing at the bedside? How does it benefit RN's for ANA to not recognize LPN's? I don't see how ANA can improve nursing if it doesn't recognize a very important facet of bedside nursing.

I am in Canada and LPNs are not in the same professional organizations as RNs here. I understood the reason was RNs and LPNs do different jobs and have different education levels and responsibilities so it was easier to negotiate when dealing with a more unified group. It could be difficult for an organization to represent everyone (as seems to be the case in the ongoing bedside RN vs advanced practice RN in the ANA).

nurs4kids: The above post has good information. ANA does recognize LPN's. However, ANA is the professional association for Registered Nurses. The equivelent organization for LPN's is the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses, Inc.(NFLPN) http://www.nflpn.org/missionvaluesvision.htm

Well to no suprise their are two different oganizations, one for Rn's and One for LPN's? What a joke......talk about not having one solid organization for "NURSES" or "NURSING".

Nurse4kids - they do the same to ADN/ASN vs BSN vs MSN vs NP and ND's. It's a joke IMO, level of education, or letters after your name are meaningless.

Analogies - Just because someone has an MD after their name, does that mean you want them as your doc? I bet not always.....we have seen some pretty lame people in any proffesion, regardless of what degree or education they have.

I know NA's, LPN's and medics, that I would rather have take care of me than some nurses.

Ok I am stopping before I go off too much here.....
