I'm typing this thinking " I'm going mad, the doctor says it's O.K." but I'm still a little concerned. I know I've been a little stressed out lately, and the ferals are giving me a bit of curry but....

I've been having these massive palpitations, my heart feels like it's about to explode, x 4 a day. I've also been getting that "rushing" sound in my ears, like high BP. When I went to the doctor he took it at 130/80 which is fine but mine is usually at about 100/50. He wont do anything about it, says it's fine but I'm still getting palpitations and that whooshing and it's driving me even more insane than I usually am! Am I worrying about nothing? Do you think I should get a second opinion? He seems to think it's normal, I'm not so sure also having ^SOB ( That's shortness of breath, not the other!:) ) when walking, mowing the lawn etc. I don't know, just tell me I'm not going round the bend O.K.?! Not drinking caffiene, cut down on the cigs and still no results four weeks without coffee is killing me, I don't know which is worse! LOL!! HELP ME!!!!

one word ...PERIMENOPAUSE...or something like that.....sure do need spell checker

Aussie: I was thinking along the same lines as cactus wren - is peri or even menopause likely to be an issue here? I do recall that Oprah Winfrey was all but diagnosed by her personal trainer as perimenopausal after a cardiology consult had failed to find a cause. Also had similar issues myself for many years which eventually have resulted in no cardiopathy findings but definite menopause. Try a nurse practitioner who specialises in women's health - often my first call for unusual symptoms.

so THAT is what I have to look forward to??? Sheesh!!!

Aussienurse2, I would definitely get a second opinion.

See a cardiologist, then if they think it's nothing, ask to see a specialist who can tell you whats going on. Travel2lv

:roll :roll

"Ferals" are my children, all four with dangly bits. Feral is what we call domestic animals that have gone wild, a lot like my boys! "Giving curry" is being annoying, giving one the s#*ts like curry does! Ya know?!!

Am going to get another opinion. The problem is that I work with these doctors so they know what I do for a living, and you KNOW how they treat nurses!:o "A bit of self diagnosis Kate?" Yeah like I go to the doctors for like a pap smear and thats about it!! Am going to Sydney soon so will go to see some one down there.

On a lighter note I HOPE it's nothing to do with menopause!! I'm only thirty-one!!!!! Although I did put the coffee in the pantry and the sugar in the freezer this morning!! Hmmmm.... Have taken it up again as it wasn't reducing these jolly palpitations and I really don't fancy living without it. "Better living through caffination!" Thankyou for your thoughts kids, feel better running through things with all of you.

Oh and we don't have nurse practitioners here worse luck! Would feel a lot more comfortable going to see a nurse than a doctor.

Aussie I am glad your getting a second opinion and thanks for explaining the terms. I used to call my kids when they were wild yardapes. LOL.

I saw your fireworks on TV last night and they looked beautiful over that huge bridge!

lol I knew what you were talking about I have a Oz buddie that has been keeping me up on the slang and Its soooo funny I love it.

I suggest a second opinion, with a Dr that you feel comfortable with and one who will take your words as seriously as you do.

If going to Sydney is the way then go down and enjoy the day as well.

Good luck to ya

Good excuse to shop!!! LOL!! I don't have yardapes, I have houseapes, and yardapes and just plain apes!:D I have a "Queenslander" style house which is basically a house on sticks and my five year old climbes the poles to the top! He is an ape!

Hope all is well Aussie...I had the rushing in my head too and it was my BP going wild...needed to bump up the old ACE inhibitor some.

I know some folks report this sensation with SVT also...have you checked your pulse when it happens?

Agree that you should get it checked...might just be a little mitral valve acting up (if so you know the doc will want you to quit smoking as well as caffeine) BUT as you know, it could be something more insidious that requires attention.

'Ferals' are a good handle for kids...also like 'rugrats' personally. ;)

Why do so many MALE docs write women's complaints off????

GRRR.

Aussie is your house on sticks because it floods? Some places in the states do that.........

I think some in the southern part of the U.S. do that for style. Not sure..
