Not quite by that position title, but I have seen several positions advertising for "Coumadin nurse". The positions review lab work and adjust Coumadin dosages for cardiology practices.

Always thought that position sounded interesting; so much so that I ripped out the ad and still have it magnet-ed on my refrig for about 10 years..

I imagine works in a clinic and takes phone calls from patients who need prescription refills.

In my facility rx refill nurse inputs all the fax, phone and walk in requests into the EHR. Then depending on the look up last appointment, labs, any other necessary data and forwards to the M.D. to review and push to pharmacy.

Specializes in Primary Care, OR.

I'm picturing the one who has to sit for hours on hold with the likes of Medco and such only to hear, "the patient needs authorization for this medication".

then have to do the authorization.

only to have to inform the patient that it will cost them 150$ with that prior auth....

yea sometimes i don't miss the office setting.

plus all the stuff the pp said. the pulling of labs and such..

oh then to have to call the patient back to tell them they are overdue for bloodwork and the MD wont refill til they see them in the office......

Specializes in ortho, hospice volunteer, psych,.

Our last PCP had a nurse who called in refills. You could either call in and put a message on voice mail or you could email it in to her.

It was only for refills.

Officially we had to call in at least 48 hours notice, but she didn't hold people she knew were elderly and forgetful to the 48 hour thing.

The practice was large enough that her job was fulltime and only scrip refills. When he retired and a new young MD bought the practice, he eliminated her position as well as the two NP positions.
