Nurses General Nursing

My LTC facility has just recently been comandeered by the devil himeslef  actually just a guy who only has business experience and not a shred of nursing. The guy supplies us with "excatly" the right amount of incontinent products for each shift, basically if someone gets the craps it is all over litterally, also we can only change the residents once at the start of the shift so that we aren't using too much products there was onlyone box of gloves on our care cart today size large. also we have to wear these stupid name tags that have really sharp edges and can actually cause cuts.

I once worked in LTC for someone very similiar. Some of his cost-cutting measures: doing away with a miniscule shift differential for CNA's who were making minimum wage( gee, why is evening and night shift always short) and refusing to put extra rolls of TP in the restrooms because he was sure the staff was stealing it. I only lasted 6 months after this guy took over. Seems he was later caught embezzling funds. I think he fled the state before he was arrested.

:o

Hmmmmm, guess where he might have went to...hmmmm

Call the state ombudsman...now. Not only is this abuse, but what he's doing could also fall into Medicare/Medicaid fraud.

Yeah, that too! :yeahthat: :yeahthat: :yeahthat: :yeahthat:

...boy did he get himself into a rough job! I am suprised some of your fellow coworkers have not told him where to shove it yet!:rotfl: I'd make him clean the pt up after I use what is allotted to me, then ask what he thinks about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there someone above him?
Yah his Future Mother in Law:)

Seriously tho. there are a few things that kind of run into this situation

#1 we can cange them if a BM has occured.

#2 the company who sells us our products swear that they can hold "up to 3 liters" of Urine before they FEEL wet.

#3 His mother in Law is THE BOSS......our old boss' contract was cut short by 3yrs hmmmmmm.

#4 he has a new BMW, and a new Cadillac Escalade sooooo...

#5 I live in canada and I think that rules are a little different

this is so nuts it is only my 3rd shift back since he took over.

we can't hand correct any mistakes on our time cards

we can't wash anyone up for bed before 7pm... even if they beg us to.

The Team leader is responsible for call ins after the hours of 9-5 m-f.

the team leaders are the LPNs who are also responsible for all medical care of the residents we hahve 1 for every 25 or so residents.

this is seriously nuts:uhoh21:

Someone should send a copy of these new rules to the direct relatives of each resident -anomyously- of course. Make sure the phone numbers of the future MIL and the new manager are included. Also one of those letters could accidently end up in all the local newspapers and any television stations nearby.:chuckle The resulting fallout should be very interesting.

I would say I was surprised, but unfortunately I am not. At my last position, my DON would constantly underorder stuff like diapers... finally I called her at 1am when we had no diapers or pads... she told me to PUT GARBAGE BAGS UNDER THE PATIENTS!!! I was furious. I got a requisition form, called a local acute care hospital, purchased 10 bags of diapers from them, and proudly signed my name. As for no pads, the next day she bought... wait for it... PUPPY PIDDLE PADS! That was what they were actually called, with a picture of a collie on the package. Can you see why I left that hellhole?

I do not know the regulating agency that controls operation of these facilities in Cannada. You should report to that agency. Additionally you might consider going to the media. They LOVE this kind of scandel. The media will draw attention to the situation faster than anything.

My first move would be to the Canadian or provincial agency that oversees the safe operation of these homes. I would only resort to media if I already had another job lined up and I knew the chacter of the responsible person warrented this type of approach.

If the problem gets corrected as long as they are being looked at and then goes back to the same old same old. then I would report it again and I then would seriously also consider informing the media.

Total absolute BS. That is neglect and abuse. What do families say? What is the break down rate? UTI rate? I'm sure they aren't eating as well either. Who would if you were constantly soiled. Do something now!

Yeah apparently we are using the products how they were ment to be used.

1 change if BM has occured

2 change if there is 2inches or less of the yellow wetness indicator lines are left

3 give peri care at each change

Oh Lord, if MY great-grandmother has to move into a home soon and ever gets a puppy piddle pad on HER bed, I think the family will have a little chat with the DON (and maybe with the state too). My mother would hit the roof!

Now, what do you do with a FAMILY who won't or can't keep their loved one in incontinent supplies? They get the bill, they get phone calls, live in the area, but are always too busy or too broke to get Mom some diapers.

#1 well i would hope so sheesh...but how is sitting in s*** better than sitting in urine

#2 can we say BACTERIAL GROWTH

#3 can we say CONFLICT OF INTEREST...see if your facilities have rules about family members being directly over each other

#4 sounds a little like a spoiled mammas boy to me...so not surprising

#5 ever considered moving???? haha...just a joke:rotfl:
