There are many threads on this subject with many different opinions. If you use the "search" button you will get a pull-down menu and then just enter RN to BSN and up will pop several recent threads.

Thank you Trauma RUs and Tweety. I read the threads, they are all very informative. I guess i have one more question. Last year there were a lot of nurses looking into the best schools both monetary speaking/core course. I read about Wyoming and Fort Hays im wondering if any body enrolled in any one of those. I will like to hear some comments. Tweety does your program at FHCU includes quizzes or is only papers and participation. Are you very happy with your choice? Do they have NP program? I have considering Phoenix U. but is so, so expensive. Kentucky have a forgiveness program as now, where every year after graduation 20% of your tuition is forgiving. Of course you have to work 5 years after graduation in Ky. to repay otherwise you have to pay out of your own pocket. I think is good if you are thinking of staying in Ky. , but considering im in my 50+ can't make up my mind. Dont want to have any more debts, but i have this desire to go for my BSN even at my age. What do you think. Maybe i should just look forward to retire. I went ot school late also ,so i have been an RN only for 9 years.

lichy, picking a good school is a very important decision. Our grades are based on papers, quizzes, discussion board postings and a weekly one hour live chat. I'm very happy with my choice. They do not have any nursing programs past the BSN currently, but are working on getting an MSN sometime in the next few years, but for NP.

Good luck.

thank you, Tweety- your response is very much appreciated

University of Northern Colorado has a RN-BSN online. It appears to be an inexpensive program. $235/credit hour for out of state! However they don't have nursing courses over the summer and if you were to "take a semester off" you would have to wait an entire year to get back in line with the courses. Also, you don't have to visit the school unless you want to attend graduation.

I think they have a NP program as well.

Hello. Sorry I am responding to you post late (this bloody computer has a mind of its own)

I attended California State University, Dominguez Hills on-line. I liked the program very much. At that time (mid to late '90s) the course work was delivered via the telly/cable. Most of the courses that I enrolled in were offered at 0400 hours (gasp!) so I just set the video recorder. I am not sure how the classes/courses are being delivered now. Also I had to pay out of state tuition, and most - if not all - of the required "homework" had to be mailed via Post Office. Maybe that has changed now, as well? There is no on site residency requirement either. One big problem I encountered was: difficult for me to find placements for my required clinicals since I was considered an "out-of-state" student, something about insurance. I was also able to do a lot of the required electives from other, distance based colleges/universities which CSUDH accepted towards my BSN.

good luck to you. I am not sure if they have a nurse practitioner program on-line. I am reapplying to SUNY at Stony Brook, Long Island, New York. {I was also looking at University at Cincinnati for nurse practitioner in Women's Health, but they required recent GRE's and mine are more than five years old}

I did the University of Phoenix online for both my BSN and MSN and was very happy. It was expensive. However, an MSN (and now an APN certificate) will give me more options.
