Today we celebrated Senior Nurses

I'm on a the recognition and retention committee at my job and today we threw a huge party to celebrate senior nurses. Nurses who have been working at our hospitals for 20 years+ were invited to this wonderful event. There was great food, drinks (full bar), and music. We also had a photobooth so they could capture the moment with their friends/colleagues.

Administration came and gave a short but touching speech. I personally felt honored to be in a room with such experienced, wise, and awesome nurses.

I've only been a nurse for 5 years and I very much look up to those who came long before I did. I love learning from these nurses and hearing their stories from way back when they first started nursing.

They have truly paved the way for current nurses and those to come.

They've taken care of thousands of patients, family members, and whoever else needed there care and expertise. They've been able to adapt to the many changes and demands of nursing.

I could just go on and on and on about how much I deeply appreciate those nurses who have been in the trenches 20years + . I don't know how you do it but I definitely want to be like you when I grow up. :inlove:

Sound like a wonderful event. Sounds like something I would like to attend. Glad you got to go. And I'm even more happy that those nurses were recognized and had a great time. Sometimes the people who do the most work never get even a thankyou. Glad they got their own event. God is good❗️????

Yes, God is good. I was surprised about how many nurses showed up. We had nurses that have been nurses for 20+ years to 49+ years. I have to admit I was a little giddy and excited to chat with them about their long career in nursing. One nurse said when she started she only got paid 3.86 dollars an hour. Can you imagine that? It was such a great night, and I'm sure the party is still going.

Wow! 49+ years as a nurse is no joke!!! That's a lot of experience though. And $3.86 is barely anything.

When I graduated I barely made above minimum wage. I started at $3.25/hr and got $0.25 cents per hour raise when I passed boards. It was 1979/1980.

It is nice to see that some facilities still value the experienced nurse.

I'm glad you celebrated the nurses with seniority at your hospital -- but not the same as celebrating senior nurses. For example, I have 37 years of experience, 10 of it at my current job. I know lots of nurses in similar situations.
