Thank Goodness for Good CNAs

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I just wanted to start a thread to let CNAs know how much they are appreciated - I'm sure it's not the first one, but, let's call it a reverse vent

I work nocs, so less staff than all other shifts. My noc CNAs are a lifesaver. I can count on them to not just 'do their job' but predict my needs. When I am tied up with a labor patient and have another patient with an unusually scheduled med, my aides will find me and ask if they should call the nursing supervisor to hang an antibiotic, etc...

My aides know when to get the delivery table set up and when to just 'hold tight' if there is a good chance for a C-section. Heck, they even know when I need a cup of coffee and haven't had a chance to get to the coffee pot.

Please don't ever feel like you are unappreciated or that your job is not important. If it weren't for CNAs doing their job well, I could never do mine. THANK YOU ALL.

If I have posted it once, I have posted it many times...I love the CNA's and value them as a vital member of the healthcare team! Sure there are some good and bad apples, just like nurses and docs....but I am very lucky to say that I have worked with some of the best...and always show my appreciation to them, as they do for me :)!

I agree. I'm an agency nurse and mostly do LTC (night shift). If it wasn't for the good and helpful CNAs my job would not be possible. The overwhelming majority of them have been great and know their stuff. I've been alerted to changes in patient condition that I never would have noticed (since I don't see these people every day, and in some cases never before) because the CNAs know these residents and come to me with something abnormal. It's great when everyone works together for the betterment of the patients.:thankya: :flowersfo

Amen! Our CNA's are always welcome to celebrate nurses day/week with us, but this year we were sure to do something for the CNA's on CNA day (Who even knew that existed?? I had no idea! Wish I knew when I was a CNA! LOL). I work with some great CNA's and appreciate them EVERY DAY! :)

I work with the most awesome CNA there is. We are always teamed together on the hardest pod on my floor. (were all the max x2 people, tube feedings, confused "out of it" patients go) I told my nurse manager the only way I would stay on that pod day after day is if she is with me.

I trust her judgement over many nurses I know. She has saved my hiney more than once. God bless good CNA's.

When is CNA day? It should be a whole week, as far as I'm concerned.

I am not a CNA and I am a brand new nursing student, so I don't have any experience in that field. However, I do have some very close friends that are CNAs and they are absolutely awesome! I have talked with them a lot about their jobs and I think they are incredible! I have so much respect for CNAs and I will value them greatly as I pursue my nursing career!

So what do we need to do to show that appreciation for the CNA in the regular paycheck? It's really disgraceful that supersizing a burger or french fries pays more that a CNA receives!

Amen! It's the CNA's that can make or break a shift in LTC. They don't receive enough recognition in my opinion. When you work with good CNA's I think a facility should do every thing in their power to let them know how much they're appreciated as should the nurses.
