got this from a friend.. take a look and go to the website and sign the petition... in the name of common decency !

Thanx ! :)

>There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will

>require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for

>patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through

>mastectomy" where women are forced to go home hours after surgery against

>the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with

>drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on

>their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over

>half the House signed on.

>PLEASE!!!! PLEASE!!!!!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below

>and help women living with breast cancer get the care they need and

>deserve!!

>There is no cost or monetary pledge involved. You need not give more than

>your name and zip code number.

>This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON. THANKS

of course I agree that a woman needs more than 1 lousy noc to recover from a mastectomy

petition signed and forwarded! :)

There was a link on here a yesterday about the same thing :chuckle I guess it just shows we are all concerned.:)

This policy is soooo sexist. They wouldn't dream of kicking men out on the night of their prostatectomies.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely no problems Jnette - As I said it just relfects how concerned everyone is. :)

These lawmakers should remember that they could be on the receiving end of this type of treatment, for breast cancer can strike MEN as well as WOMEN. Just some food for thought...

Jnette, actually I posted the same thing yesturday...no hard feelings:) Acually I am just glad to get the word out. I recieved an email from a friend about it yesturday and hey the more people are aware of this the better to help spread the word about what concerns our patients. There should be no place for insurance companies in healthcare except to help ensure our patients the right to quality healthcare, NOT the almighty dollar, in my opinion.

Checked out the ink, signed the petition and will forward to my friends...thanks for the info!

:( this happens in UK also and is totally wrong. I work on obs and gynae, and we now have breast surgery ladies come to us pre and post op, (due to hospital in crisis, always in crisis????) We don't mind and are told it is still Womens health, which is true, but to have a double mastectomy, four drain in-situ and then be told they are home the next day, with drains, I find is outrageous. The amount of tears I have mopped up as they are scared and worried to leave so early is terrible. The main reason being is that some of the general surgeons are bringing in more

patients than they can cope with to keep up goverment targets, and who is suffering in the end, the patients of course, and us nurses over here because we feel we are not giving these very vulnerable and worried ladies what we try to give our Gynae ladies.

p.s tried to sign the legislation form but won't accept me.It must see me as an ALIEN!!!!!
