What was life like for you before u decided to become a nurse? Were u working in healthcare as a cna, or in a totally different field? How did u know it was a good time to start nursing school? How did u prioritize everything with school?

i worked in a call center for 3years, then as an account specialist for a telecoms for another 3.5years before I took nursing. Both of my brothers are in the health care field, the eldest is a transplant surgeon the other one is a dentist.... i thought it would be best for the family to have a 'servant', hehe! :-)

I joined the navy right out of high school, spent 4 years there, then had secretarial positions, went back to school in my late 20's, got a bachelor's in political science (thought of law school, but being a single mom with no law schools in my immediate area forgot that idea). Was offered a graduate assistantship at my university, took it and studied for my Master's in health administration. Became a staffing coordinator for a nursing/CNA staffing agency, made great money, really stressful though. After talking to a lot of the nurses I placed I decided to go for my LPN, graduated at 40. Am now a Unit Manager in a long term care facility, love it, love nursing and only wish I would have started earlier. Sometimes I feel my previous education was a waste, but it does help me with day to day decision making and problem solving at my job now. Nursing is where I belong. Also, my 24 year old is an LPN going to school for her RN.
Very interesting stories, have a great weekend.:redpinkhe:redbeathe

Late 70's graduated with a degree in law enforcement... quickly realized I could get hurt doing that and ran out of money so picked-up a job working rotating shift work in a factory making plastic bags... no stress, no dress code, and good money... became stuck there for 16 yrs. The plant closed... I had 10 months severance pay to learn some skills... Enrolled in a local tech school became a medical assistant in the clinic of a major hospital... did that for 10 yrs and realized I could do what the RNs in the dept. did... 7 yrs later I finished school [going nights] and am now an RN on a tele/TCU unit working...what else...nocs.
Who knows where this can lead me or what I'll be when I grow up!

Yes, and before nursing school I could watch medical shows without being distracted by all the errors.
