Shoes for Men in Nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am a new grad male nurse who was just hired and I am looking for some comfortable shoes.

My brother, as a UPS worker, who walks all day delivering parcels, recommended NIKE SHOX. He said his feet don't hurt anymore when getting off of work. I bought them last night and wore them for 20-30min this morning getting ready for work and my heels were aching.

I just returned them.

Any suggestions on comfortable shoes? My feet are precious and I would not like to stress them out.

Skechers are amazing

Not a man, but I swear by new balance walking shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be heading to the mall a little later.

Hey, it's what ever is comfortable for you. I've worn Vans, Nike, New Balance and Crocs (i think Crocs are no-no now though). Just take breaks, keep your feet up now and then...and don't forget to pee!

I've heard the orthopaedic Skecher shoes (around +$90) work well for long shifts. And Dansko is good also. I'd go with whatever has the least potential to make you slip on hospital linoleum tile.

Hands down, DANSKO!

Male or female

i've never heard of Dansko. I'm about to google where in NE Houston they sell them. Thanks.

My wife swears by Dansko. Eventually I will try them, until then every night I wear Reeboks called On The Clock II. You can usually pick them up for around $40. They are absolutely wonderful. I have never had sore feet after 14ish hours in them.

Dansko clogs. Period.

Yes, when I first saw them I thought they were borderline. Yes, they are expensive (expect to pay $110-120). And yes, they will likely be tight across the top of your feet for the first few weeks. They'll break in.

Just get the classic, black, non-shiny ones.

Trust me, I work 12 hour shifts and while it's not like walking in Nike Air's, I can honestly say I never even think about my feet while at work, and that was my goal. I have been wearing my first pair for over a year now. When they wear out, I will buy another pair for sure. Sneakers just don't cut it.

Also, when you get bodily fluids on them, they just wipe right up with a towel. No laces to get all crudy or nasty.

Good luck.

I've lately become a big fan of Earth Shoes. Not for everybody, but they sure help my feet feel better - wide toe box gives plenty of room.

well I am a woman but all the guys I work with wear Crocs and so do I... they make Crocs now that do not have "holes" in the top of them and they are the ONLY shoes I've ever worn that don't make my feet hurt at work... :)

I alternate between Dansko's and running shoes. The Dankso's have great support and although they are expensive the sole is so firm that they don't break down as fast as softer soled running shoes. Croc's dont have enough support for me and and cause my lower back to hurt. IMO shoes are not something to skimp on. Spend the money and get shoes with the support you need. Nursing is hard enough on our backs to have poor fitting footwear contribute to the problem.
