Scared to Retake Boards

Nurses General Nursing

I felt prepared when I took boards in February and I had 265 and failed. Now I'm terrified to take them again. I've studied until I feel I can't anymore. I'm missing out on so much with my family I feel like boards has over taken my life and I hate it. I've never wanted anything as much as I want to pass. How many times has any of you graduated in the last year had to take boards. Any suggestions or comments good or bad welcome. Thanks. :o :o :crying2:

I do feel for you... you want so much for this to be over. Did you give yourself some free time after the first one? Time to BREATHE, enjoy your family awhile, etc. before you dove back into the books? If not, please do so, regardless of the outcome of this one. YOU need it. Your FAMILY needs it.

Wish you the very, very best success !!! :kiss

:) Don't give up. Take some time to relax and be with your family. I would also advice that you enroll in a KAPLAN NCLEX review class. That's what I did after graduating years ago, and passed the exam on the 1st go around. I found the review class VERY VERY helpful. Going to nursing school and graduating does not fully prepare you for the NCLEX. A review class definitely will boost one's chances of passing the boards.

Good luck.:)

I second what vinnysca says. Taking a class through Kaplan would be the best prep you could do. I've always liked Kaplan products.

I'm a little suspicious of ARCO though. I've used their products when studying for the GRE, and several of their math problems were wrong! There's nothing so frustrating when you are studying by yourself, you're not very good in math, and you can't figure out why you are getting a problem wrong over and over again!:angryfire

Kaplan's a really good brand and I've liked their study guides. Good luck Emily's Mom, my good thoughts are with you!

I'm sorry you're feeling so down about this. From what I hear many nurses have test anxiety and fail the first time, passing the second time. Now that you know what the questions are like, I suggest you do a good review course, try to rest and relax and try again. Try not to stress too much (I know easier said than done) (((HUGS)))

This site helped me a lot. Go here and read the letter about scoring and just try to relax when you retest. Don't try to figure out what they want you to answer just follow logical pathways and read all question twice beofre ever answering, besure what they are asking and be sure that the answer is the best possible even if none of them are any good just choose the best

good luck you will do fine

ps stop studying at least 2 days prior to testing, if you study right to to test time you just burn out

i just took my state boards in february. the scariest time of my life was waiting for the results of the test for the next 2 days. i would have gone crazy if i had to wait a month like i've heard older nurses say that they i had to.

my roomate and i both studied with the nclex-pn made incredibly easy book and passed the test, they also have one for the nclex-rn. i loved it, it has a great chapter called anatomy of the nclex, with lots of great tips for helping you answer questions. it also came with a cd-rom with practice questions and rationales and it will tell you which areas you need more practice in after you do a practice test.

don't overload yourself the night before the test with studying, just try to relax!!!!! i know that this is almost impossible!!!

good luck!!!!!!!!
