Salary Discussion with Potential Employer

I have been a hospice nurse for 2 years now. I am currently looking for employment in other areas of nursing. I got a call back from one of my recent online applications and set an interview for next week Friday.

My questions to you guys are:

Is it okay for me to discuss my salary once the interview process is over and an offer is being made?

The reason why I ask this is because I currently make $38 hourly but the current job (as per people at know) base rate is $34.

Is it realistic to ask an employer to match what I currently make?

Please help!

Once the employment offer is made... most certainly you need to negotiate your salary!

You should also consider benefits as part of your evaluation. Are they paying a higher proportion for your healthcare and/or other benefits? Is it a closer commute so that you will be saving time and money that way? Are there more opportunities for promotion, or allowances towards higher education? Try to look at the big picture before making a decision based on just hourly-dollar amount.

once you're in salary negotiations (ie talking about offer, not the interview process) then yes, you can ask, but be aware if they're union there may not be much leeway on salary

It never hurts to ask.
