Just took and passed the Florida Paramedic exam. If you're a nurse, doctor, EMT, etc.; you can challenge it. 150 questions similar to NCLEX. It wasn't hard, so if you're thinking about a bridge program (none in Florida that I know of), you don't need to.

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

Is there a requirement to do the clinical portion (ride outs)?

Geez, I hope so! Lol. An RN does not automatically a paramedic make. :D

Question is why, would I take a exam to make less money ?

Sometimes air medical transport companies like to see both RN and paramedic on a resume.

Where did you go to challenge the Paramadic course? Did you have to do EMT first?

Specializes in school nurse.

An EMT challenging the paramedic exam? Sounds shady and unsafe- the difference between the training is immense. In the same vein, nursing and paramedic training is completely different, a real recipe for disaster.

Yikes. Having been all three, RN ≠NREMT-B ≠NREMT-P. Challenging an individual State's test ≠NREMT qualified (one HUGE exception to that blanket statement is I have seen former military trained medics challenge and zip through the written and practical tests with ease). Having been all three I can honestly say I've never known a nurse to be an effective paramedic and vice versa without a lot of training. A nurse needs to stretch the boundaries of "what can I do without a Dr's direct order" and a paramedic needs to learn "Oh man I can't do _______ anymore without a direct Dr's order!"

EMT-Basics cannot challenge paramedic. Nurses, dentists, and physicians can, but they have to be EMTs first.
