I have a question to you guys,I passed my nclex rn last February,and now I wasn't able to received my license in the mail yet but I applied for a job already at ltac facility,and they offered me $27/hr as my base rate and $3 diff.during weekdays and $5 during weekends and that's a night shift..as a nurse without experience at all to hospital facility,is that good enough to start my nursing career?and I am a bsn degree holder too..thank u..

It's hard to answer your question without knowing where you're located.

Pay varies drastically according to geographic region. New grad RNs in rural southern Georgia can start out at less than $19/hr, whereas the sane new grad status will result in $50+ hourly in a high cost-of-living place such as San Francisco. In essence, new grad RN pay rates are all over the place.

$27/hr for a new grad RN would be competitive in the area where I live (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX). However, you have not disclosed where you live.

In Cleveland, Ohio I started at $26/hr day shift (27 when rotating to nights) at a major hospital. However, my orientation period was 75% pay for those 3 months. So, in my mind, starting at 27 (which is what I'm at after a year) is a great thing!

How much do they give to new grad at your place?
My current workplace does not hire new grads (I work for an insurance company as an RN case manager). I have 10 + years of nursing experience.

My previous job, which I left at the end of last year, paid new grad RNs $23/hr.

When taking the lower than average cost of living in Houston and its surrounding areas into consideration, $27 is a competitive new grad RN rate of hourly pay.

I'd say that'd be more than competitive where I live in Denver, Colorado. New grads are getting $21-23/hr and our state is packed, cost of living has sky rocketed. My sister who has been a Med Surg RN for 4 years makes the same $27 base at the hospital here.
