Passed NCLEX, got licensed...now what?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I know everyone, get a job!! Working on that. So my license says it expires next year in August. So what do I do between now and then?

How do I keep it?

Do I need continuing education?

Will the BON tell me when I get my certified license on paper?

I'm in Ohio if that helps.

Thank you in advance for your responses!

The Ohio BON will tell you all you need to know about maintaining licensure, CEUs, and when you'll get a copy of your license. Their website is here: State of Ohio Board of Nursing Main Page

Congratulations!

In Ohio you do not need CEU's for your first renewal. Take sometime to look through the Ohio BON website it will have all the answers about your license, renewal, obtaining CEU's etc.

Best of luck in your career!

In my state, we do not have to do CEUs for renewal, there is no test, just a fee. Our licenses are good for two years, not one.

I agree, you need to look on the BON website for the information because each state is different.

That is the official Ohio Board of Nursing Website. Information for both RNs and LPNs is there, though why they make the RN info so hard to find on it, I have no idea.

In fact, I will say that Ohio's BON takes the prize for having the most user-unfriendly website.

For Ohio RN's renew their license in the odd years, and LPN's are even years. Because the OP was first licensed in an even year, is the reason for it expiring next August. After he/she renews next August it will be good for 2 years then.

Ya that is for sure. OBN takes the cake for having the most unfriendly site I have ever visited !! I actually have been going through the different links and reading but I have to say it is quite mind numbing :yuck:

Yes it does! Took me awhile to navigate through it and find answers.
