Hi guys I'm new here after lurking for a minute lol.So I was previously a sociology major and my last 3 semesters I did horrible because of personal issues.My last semester which was supposed to be the semester to shape up I lost my job and had to leave my home and go across town to keep from being on the street.That resulted in me flunking out of Georgia State in the fall of 2014.Now I have taken some time to think and get myself together and I have decided to pursue my goal of being a Nurse.However with a low GPA I'm not quite sure where to start.I start a CNA program next month and wanted to start taking prereqs at Atlanta Metropolitan but what are my chances to getting into schools like Clayton,UWG and Kennesaw??

You might want to consider retaking some courses to improve your GPA. Getting into those schools may be easier than being accepted into those schools' nursing programs. Highly motivated Nursing hopefuls will have very close to straight A's; you'll be going up against them...doesn't take much to put two and two together.

Set up a meeting with nursing advisors from the schools that you want to attend. See what they require and ask what you need to be competitive.

If it doesn't look good explore other options. Such as obtaining an LPN then doing a LPN to RN.

I think too many students in your position don't give enough consideration to the LPN as a start. You can do it quickly. Start earning decent money (enough to support yourself in a middle-class sort of way), and THEN let your employer assist you in taking the journey to BSN.

I started as an LPN as did a large number of AN members.

Right now my overall GPA is a 2.1.I planned on taking my prereqs and aiming for A's to bring it to what it needs to be in order to be competitive.I'm going to speak with Kennesaw and University of West Georgia since those will be my too 2 choices.

2.1 GPA will get you nowhere. Retake course and get better grades. You need about 3.8 and above at metro atlanta schools
