I've done some prelim searches on that myself. The best luck I had was putting in an RN + case management search on some job search engines, and there were a few agencies and companies that said you would have a home based office. Blue Cross occasionally does this, I'm told. No opportunities in my area, but you might do a 'net seach and see. The only ones I found I would've had to move to Ohio or Minnesota or some place like that. I couldn't see moving hundreds of miles just to work from home. LOL

I am working from home as a medical transcriptionist. I "fell" into the job buy I have found it VERY easy and actually the pay is better than when I was a nurse.

I know that most of the time you need some extra training. There are some RN-MT programs. I didn't take one but am also transcribing a specialty that I did as an RN.

The most important part is the medical terminology, typing skills, and a VERY good sense proper grammar.

What training do you need exactly to become a medical transcriptionist?

The training is a certificate program you can do from home, BUT it doesn't guarantee you a work-from-home position upon completion. Many places require you to have in-house transcription experience before they will accept you to work from home. It's just whether you are lucky enough to land the job you want.

You can also market your self to a transcription service, or physicians office- then you can charge top dollar for your services. Nurses do not need to be an employee to work as RNs, unliker LPN/LVNs. LNCs market themselves to attorneys- it is hard, as a nurse to market yourself- we have no experience in that stuff. But you have very marketable services to a large segment of the health care industry. Its just that the hospitals would prefer to have you believe that you are worthless, and your professional services are not worth more than HS dropout wages. You can also market youself to insurance companies and the like. Then you are your own boss, and can work from home. You can then do like I do, and use your house as a tax writeoff. The home office deductions. I do legal consulting, and I make out MUCH BETTER ON TAXES because I use my house and car for business. Use your imagination.
