I am looking to start a group for nurses interested in volunteering in Africa. Myself being from Ghana ,Africa and a nurse, I know firsthand the need back home. So if you are interested in volunteering somewhere in Ghana or somewhere in thewestern africa region , then, let me know. I can do most of the homework as far as finding hospitals or clinics where we can volunteer , lodging, transport etc. I am planning on going to Africa next year. If anybody is willing to work with me just drop me an email or a private message. This will be a excellent cross-cultural experience , where one can learn about different cultures while doing what he/she is most passionate about. As I said, I can do most of the home work. I need people to assist me in this undertaking. Who knows? This might go on to be "Nurses without borders". There are several missions out there that mainly work in africa and we can affiliate with them too if it becomes neccessary. Looking forward to reading your response.

I am actually going to Kenya on a medical missions trip in September :) There is a small mission hospital in Kenya and I was asked to go there and help with whatever I could including doing some teaching for the nurses at this hospital (which freaks me out a bit because I hate public speaking) This hospital is always looking for help, so if you would be interested in going there, just let me know!

im so interested...i have alwaysssss wanted to go to africa and help out!!! thats part of the reason why i wanted to become a nurse!! do you have to nbe an Rn though? because im al LVN..please add me to your list!! thanks...kodos for u for starting tis thread!!

I'm just getting into nursing so it'll be a couple years for my RN, but I'd love to be a part of it when the time came. I am in the U.S. but I've always wanted to go and serve in Africa, and that is partially what got me into nursing too. Nipa, I really hope that you are able to get that to work and expand and come together with other organizations, because I've been looking for a Nurses without Borders program but guess it doesn't exist, yet. I'd love to talk to you further about this.
