Nurses Going to Medical School

  1. Hello,
I was wondering if any of you know of someone who was a nurse but later decided to go to medical school, or someone who began a nursing program but then changed to pre-med?

I know one nurse that became a doctor. She's a terrific doctor; very well respected. She's also very big on palliative care. Imagine that.

My MD was a nurse before going to med school. She came up the old fashioned way....nurse's aide, LPN, RN, MSN then MD. She's so very good with her patients...and she's not afraid to say, "I don't know, but I'll try to find out." Then she does. Her name tag gives her full name then MD; RN.

    Peace,

A couple of the residents I worked with a while back used to be nurses. They were great. I think nurses make great doctors. (One even started her own IV during an emergency which was cool!).

My sister was RN prior to further ed later in her life...took BSN and then did not stop until she had MD. She is excellent internal med physician and her patients love her.

My present primary care doctor is a former nurse. She started out wanting to be a doctor, but her parents refused to pay for medical school. Told her they would only pay for nursing school. So she went to nursing school and then on to medical school after a few years of experience. She is a great doctor and a valued friend.
