Hello all! My class graduates in a couple of months and a few of us thought it would be nice if we could all have matching capes to wear to our pinning ceremony:yeah:. I was wondering if any one knew of a good pattern or of where I could get one for sewing a cape. I have looked for patterns but I haven't found any that seem to match what I was looking for so I was hoping that maybe someone here has made them or knows of a good resource.

That "few of us" probably doesn't represent the majority of your graduating class and I can tell you now that *they* probably won't want to spend the time, money and trouble that sewing a cape represents. Plus the "few of us" shouldn't stand out from the rest of the class during the ceremony.

Trust me...been there, done that.

Umm kinda (-: We been discussing traditions in nursing for our final class and we figured since we were having a pinning ceremony we should have capes too!

What about nursing hats? I bet you could still buy those somewhere, and no one would have to sew! I know I can't even iron, nevertheless sew LOL! Unless someone is making all of them. You could do hats and tradional white dress uniforms?

Call me a party pooper, but i like uniformity during something like a pinning ceremony. It just looks a lot more impressive. Plus, you don't have people wondering why just a few have a certain add on.

As much as I think that idea is so very cool (my xMIL has her cape, and her class picture was beautiful), I have to agree that people are not going to want to sew them, and may not want to buy them. (EBay has them for around 60-70 dollars)

Why not get your portrait done with one that you purchased, or if you find a pattern, one that you make? Do they even do portraits when you graduate anymore?

I think if everyone agrees and you can find them/make them, it would be beautiful, and probably very sentimental to anyone who has a parent/grandparent that has a cape and would pass it down. Let us know what you all decide! :)

We dressed in business atire for our pinning ceremony...so capes would have looked silly. We all wore white shirts for our class photos. Whee I am in grad school, the pictures on the wall was everyone in their cap and gowns...I don't know any local schools that do traditional uniforms for anything anymore!! Seems outdated...

Thank you all for your input! Our class is not that big and the sewings not a problem which is why we were thinking about proposing it to the class. I just wanted to have a some what complete plan before proposing it. The caps are a great idea too (and definetly would be easier)! Our graduation day is different than our pinning day and for pinning everyone dresses up but there is no uniformity which is what some of us are trying to create. Thanks again!

Our graduation ceremony was traditional caps and gowns and was for all the various degrees...business, accounting, what have you. The nursing school held their own pinning ceremony and we wore dressy white uniforms and nursing caps. Caps were "optional" but the only female student that didn't wear one looked totally out of place. That was also the dress required for our graduation pictures. I still have my class picture hanging in my office. :)

I don't think this is a very good idea. What does your school normally do for atire? I'm all for traditions, but not everyone sews, and the time spent on sewing would be better spent on preparing resumes--see the post on how the recession is affecting nursing.

I'm not trying to sound/be negative, but I for one, if in your class would say NO.

You couln't PAY me to wear a cape!!! If you're in a unique situation where everyone actually likes that idea, go for it. But I'm guessing you're going to get resistance. They dictated to us that we had to wear a uniform dress with three quarter length sleeves. First and last time I wore that thing, or a nursing dress in my entire 30 year carreer.
