Has anyone started to apply for the Nurse Corps loan repayment program? I wanted to see if anyone is having trouble using the application at all?

grandpaj me too. It's discouraging.

No go for me as well...

Did anyone call last year to ask why applications weren't selected? I was thinking of maybe doing that but didn't want to wait on hold forever and then not get any answers.

I am curious as well grandpa. It seems that some people who are in the same Tier with the almost same D/I ratios receive awards while others do not. How can this award system be based on those two things but happen for some and not for others. Some people with lower D/I ratios received awards before others with higher ratios and are in the same Tier. It is very confusing. I also wonder why all the reps of HRSA give out conflicting information every time someone calls? It is very frustrating!

I agree grandpaj and pbflash42....it does seem that some awardees have lower Tier and D/I ratios than those not awarded. If they could at least let you know where you ranked it might stop the heartbreaking process of re-applying and waiting every year only to be turned down.. Third time and it was not a charm. :( Since these are federal funds shouldn't the awarding be a uniform process??

I got my rejection also. I probably wont be applying next year- too much work! I was tier 1.

I also got my rejection letter:( I was soooo hoping I would get accepted for the award. I do plan to apply again next year since this was my first time around. @grandpaj - did you ever call to see if you could have your questions answered? I'm also very curious about the selection process bc it makes no sense that you didn't get it and others did.

I got my rejection email on 09/30/14. I was in the highest tier for area of need, but my loan to income ration was only 45%, which is greater than the 20% requirement. I am not applying next year; not after I saw some loan to income ratio's at 180%-200%!!! Makes me think I'm in pretty good shape compared. With so many qualified applicants, I am guessing selection may be by a lottery of some sort; taking all the qualified applicants and doing a random drawing. I don't know how else they could do it.

Did anyone get an award whose loan to income ratio was only in the double digits?

Agreed nurse1959 why would they keep our applications down the last minute if it wasn't some sort of lottery system. But if that's the case why not tell applicants that? On the other hand myself a coworker in my unit and someone else from my hospital applied not sure if it was just the three of us or other people applied too. Either way the third people (who I don't know) got the award. So did they compare all of us, and gave it to the person with the highest DTI ratio? Very frustrating and what's worse next year the applicant pool will be double or triple.

I received the award in 2013. From what I know, it really has more to do with your HPSA score, yes you need to be in Tier 1 and have a high D/T income ratio, but its all about the HPSA score. I had a 19, but I also had a 200% D/T income ratio. I spent so much time reading and researching because this award was life changing for me. I work in a very poor area of the country and I believe this is the trade off, having the ability to receive the award.

I received this award and I'm wondering who else has and did you have to pay state taxes on it in addition to the Fed and FICA taxes? Just trying to budget.
