Moving Frustrations

Frustrated here.. We have been considering the idea of moving to a warmer climate than where we are now.. However I was licensed in a non compact state. The hoops you have to jump through to get a license in another state is insane. Not to mention the cost is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! After you add it all up its getting close to $500. Just another example of more Nursing BS.. Ugh..

I can't imagine why it is so expensive. I have moved a few times, and have received reciprocity each time - long before the 'compact' started.

Usually only had one form to fill out, send a check to new state for reciprocity, send another check to first state I was originally licensed in so they would forward my scores to the 2nd state. Certainly not 500 bucks!

Check with the BON online or directly.

Best wishes!

if you think moving from state to state is bad, trying moving to another country :)

It is so expensive because each state charges a fee ( the state you want to get a license in, the state you are licensed in for verification) then you need to be fingerprinted (fee), then you need to have a background check (fee), then the application fee itself, etc, etc. The list is endless.. After you add it all up it is $500 or more... I can't imagine moving to another country..

Another reason to get into another career ASAP...

Last time I did it, was over 20 years ago, and even then it was over $100, and back then they didn't require fingerprints or a background check.

Needed school transcripts, etc., etc. etc. Each state had their own requirements.

One verifying licensing board (California) took my money and then claimed they never got it, which definitely delayed things.

It was a hassle then and I'm sure it's even worse now.

Regarding the verifications of previous licenses: Go to Nursys.com They will send verification of every state you have been licensed in to the state you are applying for for a fee of $30 (charged only for each state you want the result sent to). This is accepted by all but about 4 states now. There is a list on the site of states which participate.

I know this works as I'm up to 12 states now (travel nurse)
