Most enjoyable book on Nightingale

Nurses General Nursing

The more I read and study about Florence Nightingale, the more amazed I am with her. I'm in the process of writing a paper that includes a section on her. Most of the information comes from textbook-type sources.

When this paper is completed I want to read more about her, but I want it to be an enjoyable biography, not in the scholarly style. Just for my own interest and fun. Any suggestions for a particularly good book about her life?

I've read a couple of books about her. She was an amazing lady. Don't remember the names of the books though. I think that what ever you pick up about her to read will be fun and keep your interest.

I remember reading about her in nursing school. Wasn't it her theory of nursing that the patient should be accountable, and do all that they can for themselves both to maintain, and to regain health, for best outcomes?

Has there ever been a movie made about her? Seems like it would be a great film..

Not a book, but Country Joe (of Country Joe and the Fish, of all people) has become very interested in Flo and has a website for her. Check it out! He's donated all his archive to the University of California San Francisco, which might have it online, and there are a lot of other links.

I personally love her original book, "Nursing, What it is and what it is not." I have a facsimile edition of the original.
