Man Lives 2 Days Stuck In Windshield

Hit-And-Run Victim Eventually Dies In Driver's Garage

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A man who was the victim of a hit-and-run lived at least two days trapped in the driver's broken windshield before dying in the driver's garage in Fort Worth, Texas, police said.

"I'm going to have to come up with a new word. Indifferent isn't enough. Cruel isn't enough to say. Heartless? Inhumane? Maybe we've just redefined inhumanity here," a prosecutor in Fort Worth told Fort Worth Star-Telegram about the October 2001 incident.

Police arrested a 25-year-old woman Wednesday -- a nurse's aide -- on murder charges in the man's hit-and-run death, according to the Telegram.

Police told the Telegram that Gregory Biggs spent at least two days trapped in the broken windshield of the car that hit him. They said the woman who was driving the car, Chante Mallard, drove it home and kept it in the garage -- and heard Biggs begging for help before he finally died of blood loss and shock.

According to a police statement, Mallard panicked, and with the man still lodged in the windshield, she drove a few miles to her home, parked in her garage, and ignored his pleas for help until he died. His body was later dumped in a park.

The mother of the homeless man, Meredith Biggs, said she wonders how the woman could have let him die the way he did.

Police said Mallard told them she had been drinking and was on drugs at the time she struck the man, and that she panicked.

But Meredith Biggs told the newspaper that she wants to know why the woman didn't call for help after the drugs wore off.

Mallard told police she occasionally went into the garage, apologizing to the victim. The impact had hurled him headfirst through the windshield, his broken legs sticking out onto the hood.

Mallard's attorney said police are overreaching in charging her with murder.

Another bit of bad publicity for nursing---as if we haven't had enough. The public doesn't hear the nursing ASSISTANT part, only NURSING.... :(

The story is actually getting worse as more details emerge.

FORT WORTH, Texas ÊÑÊThe woman accused of leaving aÊhit-and-run victimÊto bleed to death in the windshield of her car giggled several months later as she told friends, "I hitÊthis white man," according to the police report filed against her. ...

"Authorities say they got several new details from a tipster on Feb. 25, leading to Mallard's arrest on Wednesday, including an account that she parked the car with the wounded man stuck in the glass, went inside and had sex with her boyfriend, then returned with him to the garage to survey the situation. ...

I am just speechless.

On the news they are saying now that the man only lived 4 or 5 hours instead of a few days. Oh geez, I feel a lot better now that I know he only begged for help for a few hours instead of a few days.

dawngloves, This beast had a job in helping to take care of the sick, maybe saving some lives. One night she goes out, gets drunk and high on ecstacy and {{{BAM}}}drives home with a person in her windshield and leaves him to die over a period of days, never once did she try to help him even after she sobered up. Some caregiver...Sheesh...I guess this gives the phrase "burned out" a whole new meaning. I wonder what it was like to work with her??? The people she worked with are probably now saying,"I knew there was something wrong with her, but couldn't quite figure out what it was..." hmmmmm...

nightowl.

You know, we would have conversations at work about who we thought would go over the edge first.

I wonder if her co workers would have guessed her?

Ick! Ick! Ick! The fact that this person was a nursing assistant is NOT revelant at all! Being a CNA did not cause her to do what she did, it was the drugs, the booze, and the lack of morals and a conscience. I think most sane people would agree on this.

Can't fathom anyone letting someone die like that or any way for that matter. I do think that she will be remembered as the nurse assistant that did this and jury would find be much harsher on her due to the fact that she has a medical background and knowingly waited for him to die. Did she think that he was just going to get up and walk away. Dah. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior, drugs or not. Good case for 1st degree murder, premeditation possibly.

journalism or sensationalism?

Lighten up SharonMH31, I'm sane and I would agree, but no one said because she was a nursing assistant is what caused her to do this horrendous crime. I was just saying how she "cared" for people to make a living and then goes out to party one night and does this and after a couple of days still has him in the windshield of her car "not caring" at all what happened to him. What caring person would do this kind of thing??? NONE! She couldn't have been very caring at her job now that you think about it. She had enough sense though to hide the car in the garage where no one could see anything. Why didn't she drive to the nearest payphone to call 911??? There's a whole lot more "wrong" with her than just booze and drugs! She didn't want to get caught #1, driving drunk #2 driving under the influence of drugs #3 hit and run #4 leaving the scene of an accident and what ever else she was to be charged with and probably loss of her driver's license. NOW, she'll be charged with voluntary manslaughter because she chose to leave him hidden in the garage to die rather than getting him help and then had her sicko friends help her dispose his body... in the park?

hmmmm....at least now she won't have to worry about driving for a loooooooong...more like loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooog

time.
