Just wondered you guys and girls what do u think of Men in aged care

i know its mostly women driven but the occasional man what do you think of having them in this industry

Are Men are good thing or a bad thing when it comes to aged care

Young Woman:deadhorse :smackingf :yeahthat: :smiley_aa :caduceus: :1luvu: :w00t: :redbeathe

I've observed compassionate caring males, as well as females in geriatric care.

I've also observed uncaring females, as well as males in geriatric care. I don't think it has anything to do with the sex - it has to do with the person. Don't stereotype.

Hey listen guys and girls i wasn't trying to sterotype i know guys and even in aged care and they are nice

i was just trying to make a point

yw i will restate your statements but substitute the classes. i hope that will enable you to understand why people think you are stereotyping.

i think the question on most peoples minds at this stage is what point exactly are you trying to make?

for the record, i think that nurses should work as a team, there is no such thing as the perfect age care nurse, they don't exist. but there is such a thing as a really good age care team, and includes doctors, nurses and family.

levin

Hey i wasnt levin talking about aboriginals and i wasnt meaning to sterotype why would i do a thing like that

:monkeydance: :trout: :monkeydance: :lol2: just whatch what your posting

I am a male registered nurse. I think Levin's point was very well made. Young Woman, maybe you have some stereotypes about men in your mind, and you don't know it. I can tell you that, being a male nurse, I get enough stereotyping and discrimination from coworkers, patients, doctors, etc. Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes not so subtle. Yours is the subtle variety.

I know good male nurses and bad male nurses

I know good female nurses and bad female nurses.

Our point is that if you have a problem with someone who HAPPENS to be a man, don't lump all men in the same category as him. That's a two way street, by the way.

Coincidentally, when I started out in this field, I was a CNA in a nursing home for three years before I could get into nursing school. I had female residents tell me they didn't want me to help them because I was a man (they weren't comfortable with having a man help them dress). I had no problem with that. What I DID have a problem with was the woman who didn't want any men helping her mother (a resident). That's downright discriminatory. It's no different than saying, "I don't want any black/asian/white/hispanic/etc people helping my mother".

Yours is the subtle variety.

This is subtle by you?

I'd hate to have experienced the heavy duty stuff you must've been through, then.

Sorry, mate. I work with very few men in my LTC facility but I can tell you that, to a man, they are caring, good nurses.

When I said subtle, I meant "not overt." As in, "Hey, you're a really good nurse even though you are not a woman!" The person is being offensive and showing their stereotypes, without knowing that they are being offensive.

I 100% agree with you. It sounds like to me this op has an issue with one male and is generalizing his traits to men in nursing.

I've seen nurses (male and female) do this to each other in the "nursing is a backstabbing, gossiping, catty profession because it's a female dominated profession" threads. Seems like there are more of these types of threads, but I wouldn't stop to question wether or not females should be nursing.

My boss his a nice guy really he is

I was just saying about the diffrent styles that males or females take on a certain situation
