Nurses are so often the unseen heroes of medical care. From caring for the frightened child who must undergo a painful procedure, to comforting a family member when the outcome isn't what was hoped for. We all know this is a difficult job. However, we also know that we do it because we do CARE! What is your most memorable thank you?

What is your most memorable thank you?

My most memorable thank-you happened in 2006 when a 95 y.o. little old lady told me, "I love you for all that you do for me."

One of my most memorable thank yous was from a 50 year old severe stroke pt. She had a rough road and she had recovered so very well. She was amazing to me and I kept encouraging and pushing her all the way. She gave me a tremendous hug the day she left and a card that I still keep that said, "all that you do is special." It really made me feel good.

A family member wrote me a note saying that when I was with the (Alzheimers) patient was when the family could still glimpse the person the patient once was, from the sparkle in the eyes and the laughing, and what joy it brought them to see that.

(Sorry, didn't want to be specific and it sounds kind of awkward as I wrote it, but it was a profound and poignant compliment.)
