Which depts are considered critical care?

I am considering becoming a CRNA. In the master's program I want to get into, they require at least one year in critical care.

Thanks!

All the intensive care units, SICU, MICU, CCU, etc. Some include ER- I personally consider ER critical care, others may say its technically not.

questions are not stupid..........so stop! :)

Specializes in CV-ICU.

We get many RNs who want to go become CRNA's in our unit, because the CV-ICU experience seems to be what the anesthesia schools around here are looking for for their applicants. I think we lose somewhere around 5 nurses/year to anesthesia school- in fact, for a long time, that was the about the only reason there were openings on our unit---- but not any more.

Specializes in Med-Surg Nursing.

The last hospital i worked at also considered the inpatient Dialysis Unit and Labor and Delivery to be critical care areas as well
