making your own scrubs- patterns?

I'm thinking I'd like to try sewing my own scrubs. I know some people have mentioned making their own, so I am wondering where do you get the pattern, or do you just kinda make up your own?

I think I could manage the pants without a pattern, but I think the tops would present me with a challenge.

Also, is the cost comparable to buying scrubs? Material seems so expensive, but then again some scrubs do too.

Ok, last question- what kind of fabric do you like best?

(most comfy, lasts the best...)

Thanks in advance!! :D

WalMart has alot of different patterns for scrub tops. I've also seen them at Joann Fabrics (are they in other states too??)

I'm going to attempt to make some this summer when I'm done with school.

I like Simplicity 9896 because it has a top with a neck that is somewhere between crew and boat. That is, it is not Vee, and I don't so often flash my patients.

It also has a stethascope cover, but I think that if I had to match my stethocope to my outfit, I would never get out of the house.

I wish I was crafty enough to be able to make my own! lol Maybe I will give it a shot anyway!

Thanks for sharing this info!

The zipper is a great idea! I wear a fannypack because I don't want supplies falling onto patients during care.

I carry lots of stuff, calculator, tape measure, hemastats to unscrew things (arthritis), laminated info from the AACN, LOTS.

Thanks so much for all the info! I'll definitely be trying some this summer- I'll let you know how it goes :)

The zipper pocket sounds like a great idea... I'm just not sure if my sewing skills are up to that yet! Drawstrings I can handle... zippers? well, we'll see!

Thanks again!

:roll That would be me too! Better stick to a neutral colour!! I had a hard enough time choosing what colour stethescope to buy, let alone "clothing" for it!!!
