Low pay?

Are they offering this for those outside of the county or country? Is that the only hospital in your area?

Well, that's way below what the pay scales are here! What state are you in?? Anyway, if you'd like an idea of what the pay is in other places, try http://www.salary.com and you can get some basic information for free.

$29K for an RN, period, is well below the national average--mid-40s, I believe? (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, anybody.)

The cost of living would have to be staggeringly low and the job would have to come with some pretty substantial benefits (retirement package, free or reduced tuition, childcare assistance etc.) in order to even in the same ballpark with nursing salaries in the region, I would think.

Maybe they're hoping to sucker someone from a foreign country who doesn't know any better, and/or for whom those low wages would be a HUGE improvement over their current living conditions... just a thought.

I made just under $35K this year. I am an RN with an associate's degree....working in Indiana.....I work full time....MY hospital administration doesn't think I am underpaid.... :confused: :rolleyes:

I'm not in healthcare directly, I'm a software engineer, but we employ many engineers of foreign origin.

If they are coming on an employment visa (such as the H1B visa), then the employer MUST do the following (among other things):

Obtain the approval of a Labor Condition Application (LCA) from the regional office of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The LCA is a one-page document in which the employer attests that the employee will receive the same wages and working conditions as similarly situated U.S. workers, that there is no strike or lockout of such workers, and that other workers have been notified of the submission of the LCA to DOL.

Note that if the pay range is significantly different (ie, more that 10%), your employer is violating immigration law, and both the current employees and and the sponsored worker have basis for complaint.

Of course, my experience is the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Department of Labor both don't care much if employers violate this particular law. Yet another valid argument for Unions, if you ask me.

I've worked with many very talented foreign born workers, I have nothing against employment based immigration. I do, however, dislike how the current system enables employers to take advantage of foriegn workers and artificially lower wages for all employees.

Just my two cents.

(Oh, and this is my first post to this board, too! I've been watching by the sidelines for a while. An interesting group of people, nurses are! My hat is off to you all.)
