Where were you when you got your acceptance letter to nursing school? How did you feel?

The year was 1984. I had come upstairs from checking my mailbox in the dorm at Memphis State, opened the letter and said "YES!!!". I was on my way to my life career. I called my folks and they said congratulations, we knew you would make it! A few days later, I got a card from my high school principal saying she was proud and looked forward to seeing the "RN" behind my name. I still have the acceptance letter and card to this day!

Heather! I'll have to give you a call when I'm there!! I go there at least every year to visit my sisters. Yeah, I drive north from Nashvegas and visit Toledo, Ohio - Vacation Wonderland, U.S.A.

Dennie - pleeeeeeeeze do! We'll chat and I'll make you some of my home made cakes & candies (that is, if you're not too overwhelmed and occupied with the endless vacation activities available here in Toledo) :chuckle

I vaguely remember getting my board results (too long ago for my brain to process these days :chuckle). My most vivid memory is getting accepted into grad school :D I took my acceptance letter in to work to show my boss (who had written one of the recommendations). My next "most memorable" moment will be in December, when I finish! :balloons:

I have absolutely no recollection of learning when I was accepted into the RN program. NY posts names on their Office of the Professions internet site and I was at work when I looked up to find my name on the Registered Nurse list. I printed about 20 copies, walked out to the desk and told one of my favorite ER docs my news. HE STOOD ON A CHAIR in the middle of the department "Hey everybody!!! Amy passed her nursing boards!!! CONGRATUALTIONS!!!" as I turned multiple shades of red in front of a PACKED-full-of-pts department. My coworkers in the farthest rooms away even heard him! It's a great memory. I still have some of those printed copies!

Now Heather and Dennie Dont forget Cedar Point! PS..I'm in Sheffield Lake..just past Lorain and not quite to Cleveland. You can both drive on down the ERIE Lake and see me I'll make stuffed cabbages, mashed potatoes and apple pie..

Heather and Mopsi -

This is too cool!!! I haven't been to Cedar point since I was a little kid and it was under construction then! I know exactly where Lorain is - my sister's ex-in-laws live there! I have friends and la-verrs in and around Cleveland, and some of my best net-buddies drive in to Cleveland from eastern PA to meet me when I'm in Ohio visiting my sisters etc., etc.

We need to have an allnurses IRL PARTY!! I'll bring my super-salad, it travels very well!

P.S. Have you noticed that Ohio guys are sexier than the ones in a lot of other states? Why IS that???

I was at work when my notice that I"d passed came. Some of my classmates, who lived in the same apartment complex, picked up my mail and told me the minute I got home "You passed!" They knew because at that time (I don't know if they still do) our state addressed the notice to "Miss Nancy Nurse, RN"

Don't feel bad, I have a framed black & white picture of my Dad and I at Geauga Lake next to the "Mighty Mouse" rollercoaster.

Obviously today is Ohio Day!!!

I took boards at the Vet Center in Columbus - yes, 2 days with#2 pencils, no jewelry, no unescorted bathroom breaks, etc.

Worked at Marion GeneralHospital on Med Surg until board results came in - Sept!!! My husband picked up the mail and I made him open it.

I still have the paper that came with the scores from each of the individual tests(24 years ago this summer).

I also spent time in NICU at Toledo Hospital.

I'm from Dayton, Ohio - born, raised, and educated there. Took state boards in Columbus in the Spring of 1987, and moved to Hawaii as a traveling nurse in August 1988 after working med/surg for a year and a half in Dayton. Haven't returned to Ohio to live, but do visit when I can (which is very rare). So nice to see so many Ohioans on board here at Allnurses! HELLO BUCKEYES!!! :kiss

I just got accepted to U of Washington BSN program a month ago. I checked my mail one day, saw it was a big fat envelope, and cried, right there in the lobby of my dorm. the guy at the front desk kept asking if I was ok, and I kept saying "EVERYthing's ok!!! everything EVERY THING!"
