Hey everyone:

Just wondering......Im about to graduate in May and wanted to know if anyone took or knows about the Kaplan Prep COurse for the NCLEX. I wanted to take it for some extra prep but I just called and its $400!!!!

I really need to know if anyone who knows about it thinks they could have passed the NLCEX without it or if it is really worth taking. Im a good student and study from NCLEX books daily.

I have to sign up soon if i sign up at all.......pleaseeee help!

Thank again!

I personally would not waste my money on Kaplan. I heard many things about it from people who did the course. Some felt it was a waste of their time when they could have done more quality study time on their own and buy something really nice with their money. Also the nursing instructors at my school many of them strongly discourage it. They said that they are there to help us and they are more than glad to sit down with us and make a study plan about the NCLEX. The nursing instructors know a LOT about NCLEX. Not only did they go through it themselves (of course many went through the paper and pencil test) BUT they keep up with the trends of NCLEX and know about the current NCLEX at least the instructors at my school do.

Next week I am sitting down with one of the nursing instructors who will go through all my past tests with me and see where my weak areas are at and then she will help me devise a study plan. I will start over winter break. She emphasis that Med-Surg, Patho and Pharmacology is EXTREMELY important.

I bet if you go to one of your nursing instructors or advisor they would be willing to help you. THEY SHOULD. Many times a instructor looks intimidating but they are REALLY not when they know how serious you are.

It is up to you but think of all the other things you could do with your money. Plus if you say you are studying from NCLEX books everyday already then you already have a REALLY good start.

I didn't buy the program but I did purchase the book itself it teaches you how to prepare for NCLEX itself. That is a lot of money to spend on something I feel the majority of people successfully pass in the first place. The book only cost around $30.00 I passed the boards on my first try. If you feel you need the couse I say go for it. I think you will do fine anyway.

Wow you guys.....I cannot thank you enough for all your advice!

HOLY COW> no I did NOT waste a dime on "prep" courses. I reviewed my books, starting and concentrating on subjects that had been covered early in nursing school that I easily forgot such as OB and PSYCH. I never considered for one minute spending so much money to prep me for an exam. I just did the exam.

Exactamundo. I didn't do ANY fancy, high dollar preps either...figured if I don't know it by now why bother.

Look at it like this, Nicole you can spend $400 on a well deserved vacation or shopping spree now that is worth it in the end.

I took the Kaplan course and passed...it taught me a lot about the kinds of questions and the important stuff to focus on. I thought it was definitely worth the money!
