JUST SAY NO TO MNM

Million Nurse March?

Give me a break.

uh yea, like I want to march to Washington like a bunch of whiney minorities to ask the government to step into my life a little more.

Sounds to me like another special interest group with the purpose of self profit under the guise of a "Nursing Association". If you want to be heard, write your represenative. Don't spend your time or money with these groups that pretend to be acting in your best interest.

We need less government not more. If you disagree with the work environment you are in then just quit. I did from my last job and it feels great. Don't tolerate any BS from your employer. There is no excuse in nursing to complain about being stuck in the job you are in. There are a dozen other opportunities to be had by just getting a new job. And if you don't like your new job then quit it too.

The system will get better if we all do this, It has to. If you get the government to step in with more regulation, you will find more paper work and lower wages.

We shall overcome!

So Nah!

:-P

I second the thought!

FINALLY.....another person who feels like I do!!!!!

I am sorry that you all feel this way. I would like to note that the MNM is not an association. As far as self profiting, there are no profits. It is not an association. There are no dues. Money will come from donations of those that feel we are doing something worthwhile and it will go directly towards funding the march itself. Not one person associated with this group is making money on it. Of course there will be those that will say that it is inappropriate to involve the government. Please note that the government is already in it, up to their eyeballs. And nurses just quitting is what has gotten us to this point already. Nurses discouraged, overwhelmed and deeply frustrated that have said enough and I'm outta here.

We may not be for you, but we are for many others. I am truly sorry that you do not feel this is something that you can get behind. Since it is not, at least do something that will help your career field. We need all the help we can get.

Good post Buck227.Just a few opinions.I live in Canada and our health care system is totally run by the gov'nt both federally and provincially. On the positive side there are alot of safety nets in place and if something goes terribly wrong...the gov'nt is accountable. However,as with any gov'nt run agency there is a tremendous amount of waste.Alot of money is wasted on middle management, studies etc and nothing seems to get done.At times I am envious of the privately run institutions in the US because as a "paying"customer, literally instead of thru tax dollars ,I can demand higher standards as a private citizen. We cannot be verbal up here,ie letter to the editor etc, because we would lose our job and be black balled from the profession.I do hear however, that if the hospital in the US for whom you are working doesn't give a hoot then too bad! It's a tough call to make.I wonder what we could do as a collective body to address this world wide problem of disrespect and ignorance for what we do?I would stand behind a massive campaign to expose to the public the money saving atrocities we have all seen.Any ideas?

Hi buck227. I agree with you, I wouldn't want to invest all my eggs in any one group's basket. At the same time, I want to know how deep someone has their hands in my business and if there's anything I can do to help change or remove it especially when its proven to be a problem.

Those of us who are of a certain faith and dare to confess know that Jesus Christ was not affected by the world to sin, He was in the world to save us from ourselves. No country's government is a savior or panacea. And, human beings should not look to the government as a savior. We should appeal to the goodness within ourselves and others seeking change for the better. If that means appealing to the goodness within of those in government, then so be it.

Many of the MNMers probably vote, so why not hold the legislators responsible and accountable in some way? Perhaps if the nurses are successful in seeing through necessary legislation in a united fashion, this will give "ordinary" people the impetus to get involved so that the masses will not continue to be exploited by the few. Then there won't be any need for us to refer to others in a territorial manner as "special interest groups." I'm presuming we all have some sort of interest we or others would deem "special."

Wildtime88, smile.gif Speaking of gold, I need to see how much beating my retirement plan has taken. Thanks for reminding me!

sorry Mijourney, It was too easy to pass up.

If someone was to start a non-profit organization that lobbyed government for Nurses that believe in what we have discussed on this posting, would you be willing to back such an organization? Not that I think It would do much good.

I have yet to find an organization in this career field that follows be beliefs.

Maybe it's a crazy idea.

Sure the government is far from perfect. They get money that makes them beholdin' to many groups including HMOs and hospital organizations.

BUT, who wants to eliminate the water and food standards we have? Not ideal, but is anything?

I think laws to make healthcare safer will save lives as much as jailing murderers does. Neither our criminal justice nor healthcare laws are without fault, but will it be worse to eliminate them altogether?

Should we get rid of red lights too? (Can you tell I live in Los Angeles?)

Well a lot of questions.

I for one am working very hard to get safe ratios on the Safe Staffing Law I worked to get passed. Then will work to make sure the law is enforced.

I DO NOT EVER AGAIN WANT TO WRAP A YOUNG MAN IN A BODY BAG AFTER ELECTIVE SURGERY BECAUSE STAFFING WAS TOO POOR FOR PROPER ASSESSMENT!(He bled internally. There were notes on the med cart from the aide that he wanted more pain med). The RN was never notified. I was there when she had to tell the wife. NEVER AGAIN! www.calnurse.org

Hi buck227. If you've been reading my posts under other topics, you'd realize that I'm in favor of any positive effort that would elevate nursing. I'm not adversed to government or private industry. I'm adversed to the system of corruption, greed, and excessive waste of resources which I've found over the years occurs in both areas.

This is unbelievable did some of of yall take a course in stupidity prerequesit to lazy boy chair king of how to change crap I dont like in nursing school.

lets review: If you dont like it where you work, quit. oh ya now there is a solution runaway from your whiney problems.result: eventually you will run out of places to work.

oh yes thats right only minorities whine to the goverment isnt that right buck? Why are you nurse? wait, on second thought, who let you become a nurse?

you know if you dont fight for what you want, guess what you dont get it. but guess thats about the size of it some of you young people DONT GET IT. your answer if I close my eyes and the problems will go away is as childish and ignorant as it

sounds.

take a history class on anything that needed a change. vietnam, wwII, or any other issue. listen where was it said the MNM wants the Goverment to control anything? what should happen, should we allow the insurance companies to continue controlling Healthcare? lets see who allowed such a thing oh thats right the goverment. the medical world has a problem to many people cant pay thier medical bills becuase they dont have medical coverage. why? oh lets see I do have an option to pay $580 a month to cover my wife and rugrats. so the local hospital here which operates on 90% medicare medicaid reinbursements can not afford to pay decent wages becuase of all the cuts.

so am I getting to deep here for some of yall? hey lets just call the pizza delivery hang out like we are still in college in the 80s and 90s and pretend are credit cards have no max, becuse it belongs to our parents that marched on washington to stop what was wrong and injust so you wouldnt have to live through the same garbage they did.

or maybe your one of the nurses that dont care about your retirement issues or your patients or your piers becuase you got a cool job right now. or you dont worry about having a disease process your self becuase your not sick and your insurance is cheap

HOPE IT LASTS!!!! becuase more than likely it won't.

So Nah

Rex,

You are the biggest idiot I have ever read on here. Have you been tested for reading comprihension? Perhaps you are just filled with hate?

What I was saying is that no one in nursing has room to whine if they are dissatisfied with their current job. If you don't like it then leave. Yes fight for what you believe in, could you possibly think that I am so naive? You are taking on a classic aurgument of word association used by the compulsively stupid. Instead of reading a sentence for subjects and verbs that construct an idea, you pick out the few words that could possibly be taken as contriversial and turn it into your own misguided aurgument. For example, I used the word minority and whining in the same sentence, you jump to a conclusion. You show how stupid you are. See how this works.

So why don't you stay in a job where you are unsatisfied with the pay, the hours, and the working conditions, and cry your eyes out for uncle sam to come bail you out. Maybe if you put one of your rotten teeth under a pillow, then you will get paid for it and maybe even get rich. Mean while, those of us with the intelligence and will to survive will find a better work situation where we can make a difference. With the opportunities in nursing in this country, there is no excuse to cry. Big brother is not going to save you.
