  1. jt 120,000 wow doesnt seem like very many to me. I 've got more night crawlers in a couple of jars than that, and only RNs? good ole boys club right? ya we have those down here. really what I was refering to was a national union, and I agree with Mijourney it would need special tatics in dealing with problems. the picket signs would not be the answer. well obviously it appears this is not a very popular antidote for what ails nursing but what comes after a March on good ole DC? or what profit does tha ANA bring RNs with only a measley 120,000 nurses and is thier agenda selfish in nature as thier membership criteria is? in my mind the only true answer is a Union other wise who controls change? the Goverment? the ANA? I cant see one day of marching doing much with out more to back it.
  2. laughing my @ss off I bet you would Buck guess I would have to vote for ya too I like your style
  3. I second what Buck said wow do your own xrays you see thats why I won't go on to be an RN you guys are always getting slaughtered by work that can be performed by someone else like a clerk. I love being an LVN so that I can be at the bed side. when all you RNs get together at last and form a National Union as buck I think is promoting and hopefully do include us LPN/LVNs. thats is definately impressive that so many nurses got together to speak up for themselves.
  4. I am not promoting a national union and this topic may have come up at some point in this bulletin but since I am new to this enlighten me to your thoughts and anything you feel we may or may not benefit from having such a thing. Nurses where I live are curious about whether it is possible, in Texas you don't see unions there is not any exposure to the pros and cons of them, other than the railroad so lets hear what you have on it.
  5. 1) LVN 2) 2 yrs ( CNA for 15 yrs) 3) Central Texas 4) No It should be better for us all 5) No bennifits cant afford them 6) 32 hrs every weekend @ Nursing Home and Part time @ Medical center ( wife is a nurse as well) I love medsurg but they cant afford me 7) Yes but with restrained hands 8) NO!!!! 9) niether place 10) Yes!!!! 11) not yet but its coming 12) hmmmm??? whats that? 13) rotate 14) damn this one hurts guess we forgot to do that 15) I don't know but it would be nice to have benefits 16) Yes if we had support but Unions stay out of Texas never understood that 17) A lot of Nurses I talk to here in this area support the Idea of a union they see the railroad and how it takes care of thier employees and dont know of any other support system that will take care of us in years to come. as things are now its very unfair a 20 yr nurse usually makes less than a new nurse becuase you deal with an employer or corporation that is greedy. benefits are generally weak in rural Texas becuase of the non competitive enviroment you almost have to be a part time used cars salesman to get an edge here but lose any way when it comes to perks.
  6. You May be right wildtime and if the ANA included all bedside Nurses I would do the same but the MNM is including LPN/LVNs, CNAs, and Techs as well. we all have a voice that need to be heard so I am sitting back and waiting on what developes. I belong to the NFLPN but do not see much action from them they don't even have a Texas affiliation but I am rather new to all thats transpiring here. Not to say the ANA might not indirectly affect me, and my fellow LVNs and LPNs. I don't know but the shortage in my area is so severe we all feel rather over whelmed and welcome any attention we can get. frankly I don't care who advocates, or lobbies on our behalf as long as one of these orginizations, associations, clicks, or good ole boys club does something to take the stress off of our careers.
  7. wow Buck, you got me I am stupid, but I refuse to believe I am compulsive about it. well let me try and understand all this, it may be a bit difficult trying to reach the level, of intelligence your at, but I am brave enough to try. ok lets first throw out the racist remarks about minorities. that was only an analogy and does not reflect what you are trying to say. and please correct me if I am wrong ok teach? If you are not satisfied with your occupational inviroment quit your job move your family somewhere else unless of coorifice only weak nurses have families. Provided you have exuasted all the employment opportunities in your area ( just as a note they are all the same around here just thought you should know that becuase I have worked for them all and quit until I found the best sucky nursing job in rural Texas around FYI) so forgive if I seem a bit angry. your antidote is old and has failed I here it all the time you dont like it quit to me there is no difference to the nurse that stays in a situation that is bad for 30 years, than someone like you that will work 100 places for 30 years and have nothing when all said and done. Look at teachers see if it isnt better for them not the best but better I apollogize for attacking you like I did but hope you can try to understand my stupidity as well. just becuase its good for you what about the rest of us that feel compelled to care for those in our cummunities we grow up in and feel compassionately about caring for them. should we suffer because we stay to take care of them so buck are you just concerned about yourself or is there more to this than meets your field of vision. Your intelligent think about then.
  8. This is unbelievable did some of of yall take a course in stupidity prerequesit to lazy boy chair king of how to change crap I dont like in nursing school. lets review: If you dont like it where you work, quit. oh ya now there is a solution runaway from your whiney problems.result: eventually you will run out of places to work. oh yes thats right only minorities whine to the goverment isnt that right buck? Why are you nurse? wait, on second thought, who let you become a nurse? you know if you dont fight for what you want, guess what you dont get it. but guess thats about the size of it some of you young people DONT GET IT. your answer if I close my eyes and the problems will go away is as childish and ignorant as it sounds. take a history class on anything that needed a change. vietnam, wwII, or any other issue. listen where was it said the MNM wants the Goverment to control anything? what should happen, should we allow the insurance companies to continue controlling Healthcare? lets see who allowed such a thing oh thats right the goverment. the medical world has a problem to many people cant pay thier medical bills becuase they dont have medical coverage. why? oh lets see I do have an option to pay $580 a month to cover my wife and rugrats. so the local hospital here which operates on 90% medicare medicaid reinbursements can not afford to pay decent wages becuase of all the cuts. so am I getting to deep here for some of yall? hey lets just call the pizza delivery hang out like we are still in college in the 80s and 90s and pretend are credit cards have no max, becuse it belongs to our parents that marched on washington to stop what was wrong and injust so you wouldnt have to live through the same garbage they did. or maybe your one of the nurses that dont care about your retirement issues or your patients or your piers becuase you got a cool job right now. or you dont worry about having a disease process your self becuase your not sick and your insurance is cheap HOPE IT LASTS!!!! becuase more than likely it won't. So Nah
  9. lets see I do fine with just about what ever is thrown at me with excetion of those nasty gag reflexing luggies that dont come out. But once in our small town ER we had this farmers wife come in with an unable to void problem she was nasty hadnt bathed in years senerio I was working with an agency RN (this was back when I was a Tech) when we went to cath her we found chicken feathers the nurse lost it. and I was traumatized for ever. ewwwyyaaaak

I hope you all sit and really chew on this awhile and not just react like so many often do this is part of another post but feel it warrants your thoughts and feedback You know I hate emptying trash cans too, and perhaps you that have BSN degrees, have earned the right to move on, to more focused, and responsible duties. I don't buy this argument that the world at large, does not respect nurses because of education levels within a profession. Perhaps by some means of enlightment, I will see the light if I decide to do what it takes to add the BSN after my name. but really what is the core problem here, is it self image? or perceived image. 1 Why don't nurses get what there worth? 2 Why is the next generation of kids not looking at nursing as career move 3 Why cant we raise leaders within nursing to um lead us to the promise land we do it on the floor someone is in charge and without question as long as that person is competent even a BSN will follow a ADN Nurse we all have to hold our heads up and be proud of our own place and purpose in this life and if you can not respect a person or feel you are not respected because of a difference in education how will you ever overcome the issue of how the physician controls your stature and autonomy. someone once lead nursing and the rest followed I believe her name was Florance or something I have tremendous respect for anyone who set 2 to 5 years of their lives aside to be a nurse we need all of us to hold our heads up and demand respect, from the PHD to the Nurse aide we trust with the most important of patient data collection. lets not cut our hand off before we look to change our nursing world. Your BSN friends will respect your profession if you do first.

Well I apologize if I miss understood you, I based my anger from this quote. "Nurses are suppose to do housekeeping duties and be considered a true profession. All of my friends who graduated college outside of the field of nursing do not have to empty trash cans with their 4-year degrees." You know I hate emptying trash cans too, and perhaps you that have BSN degrees, have earned the right to move on, to more focused, and responsible duties. I don't buy this argument that the world at large, does not respect nurses because of education levels within a profession. You know I can not begin to comprehend what makes a person think like this. You say you want respect, that emptying trash, cans rubbing backs, performing posterior care is beneath the dignity of an education. The status that is to be the implied reward becuase of 4 to 5 years of hard faught learning . Who's respect are you looking for, the Doctor?, the Administrator?, or the CPA that does your taxes. all the while you alienate yourself from the hard working, dissappearing, Nurse aides, and LPN/LVN. Who will take care of the patient, when you do away with your ADNs, the backbone of this profession. The do it all nurse, roll up your sleeve, and stand side by side the CNA and LPN/LVN. Will the Patient/Client or Consumer see the nurse as a giant in the economic circle, or get pissed and lose respect because no one is there for them to mop up their diarrhea trail to the bathroom. Did the meaning of nurse somehow sale its very soul. I wonder if professors think less of 1st grade teachers, or teachers aides. Maybe they will phase them out, and just have PHDs what do ya think. You go ahead and rise up to your cloud in the sky. I am an LVN and if having a BSN means this, I elect to stay down here in the basement with the patient, the CNA, and the ADN which I respect.
