introvert/extrovert

  1. Please indulge me while I conduct a little experiment. I became a nurse dispite warnings that it was a career better suited to extroverted people. I do sometimes find working with others a strain (or a P.I.T.A), whatever the situation may be. I'm just wondering how many others share my plight. This "research"being unscientific of course, since just the fact that you are online suggests that you haveintroverted leanings.

Your story is the same as mine.

I am introverted while I watch people and kind of get a feel for who they are and if I want to get to know them better. Once I know you, then I'm quite extraverted.

On the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), based on Jung's theory of psychological Type, I rate as Introverted, Sensing, feeling and Judging.

Introversion: Tend to focus on the inner world of ideas and impressions

Sensing; Focus on the present and on concrete information gained from the senses.

Feeling: base decisions primarily on values and subjective evaluation of person-centred concerns.

Judging: Tend to like a planned and organised approach to life and prefer to have things settled.

I consider this to be reasonably accurate in evaluating my personality. Anyone else completed Myers-Briggs?.

I am an ENFP, quote from www.personalitypage.com/ENFP.html

Portrait of an ENFP - Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving
    (Extraverted Intuition with Introverted Feeling)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Inspirer

As an ENFP, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit in with your personal value system.

ENFPs are warm, enthusiastic people, typically very bright and full of potential. They live in the world of possibilities, and can become very passionate and excited about things. Their enthusiasm lends them the ability to inspire and motivate others, more so than we see in other types. They can talk their way in or out of anything. They love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it.

    I - N - T - J This sums me up quite well.

Introvert (I) has a source of energy mainly in the internal world

Intuition (N) means that a person believes mainly information he receives from the internal or imaginative world.

Thinking (T) means that a person makes a decision mainly through logic.

Judging (J) means that a person organizes all his life events and acts strictly according to his plans.

I am extremely introverted. Glad to know it's not "just me" out there in the world of nursing.

I'm extremely extroverted. I think sometimes i make others uncomfortable. I try not to, ......but.......I do believe it helps w/ the job. But it takes all types to make the world go round

I am more of an introvert but over the years I have become and developed into an extrovert at work.....cocky and confident but I have eased many a pt's nerves with this attitude when deep with in I thought I would just s*** cause I had not a clue of what was going to happen next. I guess I morph between the 2 at work really as sometime you need to step back and be a silent supporter in certain situations.

Interesting thing about introverts is they can make excellent actors and being introverted doesn't mean they can't be exhibitionists or like being the centre of attention.

Definately extrovert ! I embarrass myself at times ! :imbar

Funny, tho'... I was PAINFULLY shy and introverted as a child and all through my teens.

Guess I realized that wasn't getting me anywhere, and I decided I was going to be what I WANTED to be... and made the change.

Now you can't shut me up !

But like DosAmigos, I do step back and observe and get a first "feel" for ppl before I let the "silly" me out. If it feels safe, then HEEEEEEEEEERE SHE COMES !!!

And many things I am still very private about.

I guess I am an extrovert...but not until I get to know you well enough, then I cut loose...and like Jnette says...very private about certain things.

However, is anyone married to their opposite?
