Yeah unfortunately my Achilles heel on the forums is I take too much to heart and then fret over the idea of someone thinking I am a bad person for real. Some days I deal with it better than others, today obviously wasn't one of them

Hey, my dad is a volunteer, and he takes his patients outside to the garden and LIGHTS the cigarettes for them, with the full knowledge and support of the medical/nursing staff. And, since it's California, um, "special" cigarettes, too. Okay, so it's a hospice, but still.

First of all, I never said you are a bad nurse, you did. I did not even think you are a bad nurse. We all face situations where we have to choose between helping our patients momentarily or helping them in the long run. The point is, you are an educated professional who knows that fried chicken should not be on his menu, and his wife isn't. She should have gone down for the chicken. I'll bet this man has since told everyone he knows that it is ok for him to eat all the grease he wants because his hospital nurse went to the cafeteria to get him fried chicken. This is the same as giving money to panhandlers on the street. I have offered to walk to a newrby fast food restaurant and get them a meal (they curse at you when you do this), or give them money. I never give them money because I know where they will end up taking it.....
