I had just had it with my job!!!(long)

Well, Monday afternoon, I just had it with my job. I did something I have never done before. I quit without notice. I am an LPN and was a PCA supervisor. Besides all of the daily stuff with the PCA's, I do evaluations, skill check offs, interviews, checking references, new hires and orientations. Would make home visits with case managers for any complaints, etc. Took care of all copies of any licenses, car insurance, driver's licenses and PPD's and any other HR work. Also, had to schedule monthly inservices and training for staff. Since I work for a HH agency, I would drive all over the place with lots of mileage on my car. Then once a month before skill checks, would have to make surprise visits, then go back the next day for the check off. Then Monday, I was told I would have additional duties of scheduling and training of all the PCA's. Also, would be taking call for an additional week and the week that I took call, would be working that weekend for at least 12hrs doing SN visits, plus doing my regular duties.

I know that I should have given two week notice, but, I just couldn't take it anymore...

Once again...thanks to all of you for your support. Please understand, that I didn't make this decision "on the spur of the moment". This decision had been in the making for about two months. I had two resignation letters in my purse...one with two weeks notice and the other was to resign immediately. But, the minute I walked in the door, the office manager (not a nurse), started on the other nurses and me about the on call schedule for the next rotation. I knew then, that if I gave two weeks notice, my life would be a living hell.

I will see about putting this job on my next application. Per our policy, only dates of employment can be given. I know...this was my job when employers called regarding previous employees. If anything else was reuqested by the employer, it was a strict NO NO! I will fight this place to the end regarding this, if I find out otherwise.

I had a heavy heart last night, but, all of you have lifted me up. I know there are too many other places that need a great LPN to work for them.

That is soooo typical of nursing managment. You tell them you can't do the work of three people, they tell you there is something wrong with your time managment skills. I hate them, I hate their guts.

I absolutely love the raw emotion you expressed. I can only imagine what the original version of your post contained.

So this got me thinking. If you walk without sufficient notice you have obviously not acted very professionally--and I'm not in any way saying such actions are not 10000000% justified; and based on the mngr's response, it seems quitting without notice is appropriate IMHO.

Point being--you won't be rehired, so if a mgr spouts off like this, would it really be such a bad thing to respond in kind (in a very calm manner)--"Did your parents have any children who survived?" then walk out and not look back. The key is to not get into a shouting match, but to get that parting FU out and walking away with a smile. Again, it's unprofessional to the nth degree, but since you've already acted unprofessionally, and that individual attempted to match your lack of professionalism, why not enjoy this one extra cathartic moment? Or is that going too far?

Who would want to be unemployed? I'm sure you didn't want to quit, OklaLPN, but that job had a very unrealistic expectations. YOu were doing the work of 2 to 3 people. who knows, you could have had a heart attack because of too much stress or harm somebody if you had not leave that job.

Surely, it was not an easy decision just to walk away, but you did your best (more than words could say) to keep up with the work. It was just too much and unrealistic. So have peace with your decision. In the meantime, enjoy your new grandbaby

Sorry this happened to you. That stinks, but sounds like you have made an appropriate choice. I applaud you . It takes guts to think carefully through your decision, prepare, and follow through. :yeah:

I did the same thing just 2 days ago.I got the hibby gibbies after,cause I cant be without pay,not 1 day.Needless to say I called and told them I would stay.Things seem better,alot of things I wanted out in the open,came out.I am currently still looking,but atleast I still know the bills will get paid,for now anyway!

Odd, I just quit my job too, without 2 weeks notice. (Must have been the eclipse?). As no professionalism was shown toward me, I didn't feel the need to show any to them. Too old and life is too short- thank heavens I don't need the money right now, and have taken a lot of #$%@ when I did.

Just a quick update...got a great new job!!! They were able to "suck the life out of me", but, not for long. I also listed them as a previous employer and still was hired.

Also, wanted to say thanks to all of you that "lifted" my spirits when I was so down and my self-esteem was shot to pieces. I truly appreciate it!!!

Congratulations!!!!!! Good for you, expect to be treated well and respected and you will, allow yourself to be demeaned, used and abused, and you will be a victim. You have stood up for yourself, you have dignity and self respect. I hope your situation and the example you have set helps others--I'm sure it will. I wish you the best with your new job!!!
