How to answer the 10 year goal question??

I'm getting ready to have my first nursing interview & I am preparing for any questions I may be asked....I am prepared to discuss what my 5 year goal is, but am stumped on a 10 year goal! Do they want to know about my personal life (married/kids) or strictly professional? Help! :nurse: I don't want to say charge nurse/nurse manager because it will look like I'm shooting to take their job right?

I was such a dork at my interview lol. I literally answered with, "I just hope I get a 'Thank you!' once in a while!" I was nervous and had no idea what she wanted me to say, but that was my honest answer; granted, not a very intelligent one!

However, I do think the best answer is the most honest answer. Usually, they are expecting something along the lines of where do you see yourself professionally, but it doesn't hurt to be silly (or flub) your answer if you're being honest and you show some personality. ;)

I've always been tempted to say "world domination".

It's a stupid question and shouldn't be asked. Who on earth knows where they will be in 5-10 years time? I actually said to an interviewer once I didn't have a crystal ball and couldn't tell them! They just laughed! I just said I hoped to continue in my practice as a RN, continue studying in various areas, etc.

Just say you hope to further advance ur career by studying (fill in blank), attend professional development seminars, etc.

I wouldn't elaborate too much on this question - give a short, precise answer then move on.

Say it one day and see what happens! I bet u will make the interviewers laugh, and it will break the ice. They will love ur SOH!

I have a hard enough time with a five day goal.

Again, thanks for all of the creative responses! I did think to throw in "world domination" like you suggested CraigRN just to break the ice....but I was asked NONE of the questions I prepared for!!! I was asked numerous "tell me about a time when" but the situations questions I prepared for were not asked. I think I fumbled through a few of them, but managed to work in the ways that may set me aside from the other applicants. My interviewer had a similar background in terms of my bachelors in Sociology so I think that would good to have something in common. Now, I just sit, wait & pray for the best!! :D
