How often do you get sick?

It's not too often that I get sick. I figure with all the germs that I am exposed to, that I must have built up immunity to a lot of sniffles and sneezes and stomach bugs. And between that and incessantly washing my hands I am probably better off than a lot of other non- nurses.

Granted - when some nasty germ actually is successful in breaking through and getting me sick, it can be pretty bad. But fortunately, that's rare.

The first year I worked I got sick alot but I have seemed to have built up my immunity and get sick now maybe once a year. Last year I got my usual Flu Vac but got the flu anyway. Don't think I've ever been as sick.

I've missed one day of school in the past ten years---and it was in April 08, my last semester of nursing school, had a terrible cold (psh, it was probably pneumonia, but i never went to the doc even though i was coughing up all sorts of lovely stuff.) & conjunctivitis, so I missed one day while my antibiotics were taking effect so I wouldn't share with the rest of my class.

I called out of work once when I was a nurse tech for a mental health day. The only other time I called out of work was for a week when my dad died.

I'm definitely one of those perfect attendence types. LOL.

usualy only go off sick with a bad chest but since moving to USA had a stomach bug, threw my back out coughing i might add and now given up smoking and have never been well since constant cough and cold for 2 months or more, my beleif is that in the UK the sheer cold killed every bug off, but here in a warm climate the bugs in system are having a field day.

My immune system is quite a trooper, even with the damn allergies! I don't tend to get sick, and when I get a cold it lasts maybe 24 hours, and I've only had "the flu" once in my entire life. Even when noro ripped through where I used to work and all the staff that got it had the Vs and Ds for about a week, I only had the Vs for 8 hours!

Of course, my damn flatmate's smoking has probably caused the recent chest infection I'm trying to destory!
