HELP!!! Time for license renewal

It's time to renew my license, and in Texas it has a question that asks about mental illness. Does anyone have any experience with the Board on this? Has anyone every put "Yes" or instead chose to self refer to TPAPN. What exactly happens in this case? I am being treated for depression with medication, but isn't everyone? When do you need to put "Yes"?

I think a "yes" answer will trigger a lot of follow up paper work. You might even need to get an MD note to continue working. It will also leave a blot on your record. Just put "no". You can always petition to change your answer later should the need arise (it won't).IMHO

Here in OH I think you only need to report mental illness if it is Bipolar or Schizophrenia that is a current issue/you are recieving tx for. I have heard from the grapevine it does result in follow up paperwork.

I think they are referring to a quote "serious" mental illness. Don't get me wrong. I also suffer from depression and I know it is a D*** serious illness. But I think they are referring to a mental illness like Schizophrenia that would affect your ability to care for your patients. Answer "no" without hesitation.

Thanks so much to everyone for the much needed advice and support. I'm sighing with relief as I type.

The issue is specifically with schizophrenia, psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, and three personality disorders (borderline, antisocial and paranoid). Another question asks about treatment for addictions. Can't bring up a copy of the renewal application itself, but it sounds like the question is pretty specific.

PUT NO! So NOT open that can of worms. You won't work again. Mental illness ranges from total insanity to mild anxiety. We all have that if we are in nursing.
