I am graduating in May I applied to the Pediatric Nurse Residency Program at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. It is a 22 week program for new grads. It is virtually the only way for a new grad to get a job at Children's. 100+ people applied, and they hired 50. I was offered a position yesterday :balloons: I am so..... excited! I start on July 11.

Just thought I would share my good news!!

that's wonderful!

how do the residency programs work? do you get paid for those 22 weeks?

Yes, I will be paid the same salary as any other nurse starting there. The way this program is set up is that for 10 weeks I will float through the NICU, PICU, Peds ED, and the acute care floors. At the end of ten weeks, there will be a "draft day", where I will choose the unit I want to work in. In the critical care areas, the program lasts 26 weeks. The remainder of the program will be spent orienting with a preceptor. There is class time involved, as well, where you practice skills and attend lectures about pediatrics.

It is a great program.
