There are different origins about receiving a lump of coal for Christmas. In some countries, Saint Nicholas secretly gave families gold. He knew some families were bad and he left them lumps of coal instead. People often make poor career choices and live to regret it. As Nurses, we send a simple message to children that to be a Nurse one must be good and kind to others and have a desire to help people. For Christmas this year we won't find that bad lump of coal in our stockings. Aren't you glad you made the good choice to become a Nurse?

Yes I am. Sounds corny, but it's a calling for me. I once got out of healthcare when I was a CNA and before starting nursing school. Being young, retail was where I wanted to be. However, I lasted one week. Yup, I couldn't figure out why people got their panties in a wad when they could not find THE right shirt, pant, accessory. Talk about superficial priorities. People were dying and needing my help, instead I was roaming racks looking for a blue blouse.:sour: I quit retail and went to home health until I became a nurse.

Has it been all unicorns and rainbows? Nope. I have suffered burnout and compassion fatigue, but with self help I improved my practice and improved myself.

Anyway, I can't imagine not being a nurse. After I retire, however, I want to work in a garden nursery. :)

Specializes in ICU.

Nursing school has really opened my eyes to the potential of what nurses can be--quite exceptional thinkers!! Who knew that NURSES could give recommendations for treatment--the component of the SBAR. Who knew that NURSES could analyze test results and piece together symptom displays with lab values? Who knew that NURSES actually have the authority to question prescribed orders if they couldn't THINK beyond implementing written orders. Who knew nurses actually had to know the expected outcomes of drugs and adverse events to notify physicians of impending life threatening outcomes. WHO KNEW!! These are the actions that actually save lives, and I am so happy to be apart of a SMART force of individuals that acutally DO save lives EVERYDAY. Thank you The Most High for putting this very unique line of work in my path! I can't wait to start working as an RN February 2015!!

Yes, we can offer recommendations on how to treat the patient. However, a significant number of doctors out there will still disregard our suggestions.

I am very glad that I chose to become a nurse. However, my decision to become a nurse did not arise out of altruism or any desire to make a difference.

1. I am thankful to have a decent roof over my head.

2. I am thankful to afford to live in a safe neighborhood.

3. I am thankful to earn more than the average US household.

4. I am thankful to afford to eat what I want.

5. I am thankful for the lifestyle that nursing affords me.

6. I am thankful to have affordable health insurance.

Overall, I am thankful to be a nurse.

I am also glad I decide to do my nurse trainig, out of the blue one day I went home from work and said to my husband I want tobe a nurse. He replied if that is want you want then go for it. That was in 2006 and 3 years later I fulfilled my dream I was a mental health nurse. I have never been more happy and fulfilled I feel truly blesed to be a nurse.
