Getting the first job.

Hi guys, im new here and I've had my cna license for a few months now, Ive been applying to and calling any facility I can, but have had no luck with getting my first nursing job. Does anyone have any advice? could I like intern for a facility if possible?? Pls help.

The CNA's I know only work in nursing homes. Where I live, CNA's are not allowed to work in hospitals. The MA's have taken the place of a CNA and LPN's are not very far behind. The hospitals are getting really picky since ony RN's can dispense meds anymore.

I would try home health also. That can get you some experience.

are you going to the facilities in person? I have been applying online, but a lot of nursing homes do not have online apps and you have to go in person. My first CNA job I walked in filled out an app was interviewed on the spot and offered a job. My job that I recently got as a RN was in a time of desperation, I got a list of all the LTC/SNF in my area and looked them all up, the ones that had online apps, I applied online and emailed HR, the ones that did not, I hit the pavement and took two days and drove to everyone and filled out apps and left my resume. The place that just hired me, was the very last place that I went, I remeber them because I gave them the last copy of my resume, two weeks later they called me for an interview, and I had orientation this week.

I hit the pavement and heard nothing back. Being an RN means i am overqualified for a floor nurse position. It kind of hurts when i do not get hired because a nurse manager thinks i am coming in to take her place. I am planning on hitting the pavement next week for a CNA job in skilled nursing with the premise that i can have the next available RN position hope this strategy works.
