So yesterday my supervisor came to me and asked me if I would like a permanent Unit ( I have been floating since April). It doesn't come with more money but in terms of continuity of care for the patients it's a big deal. I work acute psych. If you work psych you will know what I am talking about. I accepted the offer and will start on my unit which is mostly conserved patients awaiting placement in long term facilities. Although right now we are packed with adolescents. I do love working with young people though.

I will write more later

Congratulations!! Sounds like you are doing something right if they offered you a permanent unit.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

Congratulations! :)

Congratulations:up: Like you, I work at an acute care psychiatric facility. So I do understand the importance of knowing your patients as well as having a preference for certain types of patients.

I love my MDD, psychotic and bipolar adult patients! Adolescents suck the life force right out of me.

Enjoy your new home.

Congratulations and well done!

Congrats, hppygr8ful.

I know what you're talking about. I worked all five psych units for 9 1/2 years. Sometimes, a different unit every shift, from children's to geriatric psych. The most I ever got for it was a "you're very flexible" comment every year on my evaluation.

I finally tired being moved around, and after noticing RNs with less seniority than I had regularly worked the same unit, I requested my own home unit.

For the pat 4 1/2 years, I've worked geriatric psych and have been reasonably content.
