Expiration date on RN license

Nurses General Nursing

Hi,

I have a question regarding the expiration date on the RN license. I just passed the NCLEX (Yea!!!) and the expiration showing online is Dec/2014. Some of my classmates that passed their NCLEX last week has the expiration of Jun/2015. So I was wondering why their license expires after mine??? Why mine is less than 2 years. Thanks!

Thanks. So I guess that you dont get a reminder or bill in the mail?

Depends on the state too. You don't get a bill, you get a renewal application or a reminder to renew. If you don't do it on time, it's not like you'll get a bill from the state saying "your application fee is late", you just won't have an active license anymore and won't be able to practice nursing. I remember when I was first a nurse, one of my colleagues read the letter from the state and thought she got a discount for renewing by a certain date when in reality, you get charged a penalty fee for renewing late.

It is everyone's professional responsibility to renew their licenses on time. My state doesn't send anything for drivers' licenses.

When I endorsed into CA, my first license was less than 2 years (expired the month after my birthday); when I renewed, it was 2 years.

I guess they just give you whatever date necessary to get you started in their system, and then the first time you renew they have you on their two-year cycle.

CT sends out the renewal form about a month or longer before the expiration date. It can be renewed by mail or online.

Good to know. Thanks.

I'm in Missouri,...ours expire every two years in April,..however my card no longer has an expiration date on it,..they used to,...but the card I received in 2012 has no exp date and they haven't' sent me another card, however I do have to pay my fee's every two years!
