I think everyone dreams about work one time or another. Mine are always completely stupid and have nothing to do with nursing at all. One night I had a dream that all the aids showed up in nothing but a scrub top and their underwear and they were making fun of me for wearing pants  Hope I never have a dream like that again HA HA

You know you've worked too much overtime when....

I had a "working" dream one night, but apparently it was more than a dream. My BF at the time told me that I was walking up and down the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom trying to answer call lights. He "overhead paged me" to tell me that everyone was looked after and I went back to bed.

I do have a history of sleepwalking....and I said no to overtime after that!

I have had more dreams than I can count about work.... and they are always vivid....

...from dreaming that I'm at work and telling a co-worker that I had that night off and wouldn't see her in a couple nights...waking up...having to go to work...meeting her in the elevator before the shift started...and telling her about the dream...

...having a dream that the alzheimers guy in room 213 is your grandpa walking in his walker in the middle of forrest...(who looks nothing like your actual grandfather)

...dreaming of the never ending call lights...

...having a dream that your best friend's daughter is a diabetic...checking her blood sugar...finding that its 92...waking up...and asking..."OMG...is your daughter diabetic because I had the strangest dream...."

I think the worse is when I wake up on my day off and open my eyes I know I'm at hime but my first thought is OMG I didn't assess bed whatever or OMG bed so and so had meds due a 7 and it's 8 and I jump up and say oh yea I'm not the nurse right now.

the worse dreams i had about work was hearing alarm bells go off all night long

Mine are like that too. I go looking for tele and IV alarms, I've dreamed that I found patients on the floor coding and I am all alone, no other staff at all. I can never find the stupid alarms. I have picked up our home phone when I am asleep answering it the way I do when the ambulance phone rings.

I have even asked my dh who is also an RN, what he wanted from the cafeteria, because I usually went to pick up lunch when working. He thought it was hilarious!! Then he was like, "Yeah, what are they serving in the cafeteria" They wont let you in wearing THAT!! I don't think I'll ever live that one down! But I love him anyway!

They are usually about forgetting stuff, not seeing a patient for the entire shift or not knowing a patient was assigned to me or something along those lines.

I used to have that dream constantly! The work dreams subsided a lot when I got out of the high stress environment of ICU.

I also dreamed about seating customers when I was a hostess (my first job at Shoney's when I was 16) All night long...welcome to Shoney's do you have a smoking preference?

:chuckle:chuckle I was terrified of talking to the people who came in the restaurant.

Must be the brain's way of dealing with a stressful situation. But you feel like you haven't slept at all!

I forgot about that!! My first job was working at Mcdonald's and I just stayed stressed out cause I had never worked before, except babysitting and lawn moving. I talked in my sleep and even walked in it too. I have even answered the phone at home "McDonalds, may I help you..." I was 16 and still living at home. My parents thought i was crazy!

Thats so funny:)

When I was 18 I had 2 jobs and one was working for a restaurant delivery company answering phones. I was sooo tired all the time from working 60-70 hours/week that on rare days off, I always answered the phone "thanks for calling carryout cab this is Susannh how can I help you today"

I dream about not knowing I have a pt until the shift is almost over. Or I'm back at high school, but I can't miss work
