  1. Oop sorry ATB at our place means antibiotics. There will be lots of acronyms used don't feel bad about asking what they mean.
  2. Its not horrible. Your lucky to get that much orientation, I got 3 days as a new grad and am the only nurse on shift. Usually 65 residents. Not sure how your facility does SNF but we only have to chart at night that we checked on them (no vitals). The only others we chart on are people on ATB or falls or new admits. It sucks during stomach/resp outbreaks we have to chart all symptomatic res. Med pass is minimal, tx are also minimal. Good aids make all the difference, help and praise when needed/able. Good luck and remember there are no stupid questions!
  3. All I can say is good luck. We've had them for about 6 months and they are the biggest pieces of junk. Our facility is hoping cooperate will get rid of them.
  4. Take care of a lady in LTC. Her BS's have been under control up until about a year ago. Now it's not unusual for her BS to be 600-700. Doc's have switched her insulin several times and can't seem to get it under control. Right now she is on Novolog s/s TID plus Lantus 40 units BID. 70 yr old schizophranic (sp?) She's been with us for 30+ years.
  5. In our facility we are allowed to accept gifts if it is to be used for the whole staff and not just one person. Maybe their policy is the same.
  6. :dncgbby:congrats!!!
  7. I think everyone dreams about work one time or another. Mine are always completely stupid and have nothing to do with nursing at all. One night I had a dream that all the aids showed up in nothing but a scrub top and their underwear and they were making fun of me for wearing pants Hope I never have a dream like that again HA HA
  8. How did you take the NCLEX without the BON having your transcripts in the first place? The BON would have had to okay you to take it. That is what your ATT is for. I would be finding out why you were allowed to test in the first place. I've heard of stuff like this before and some people had to retake the NCLEX d/t it being invalid.
  9. congrats!!!!!
  10. I don't think in Iowa you can keep your LPN license once you are a RN. I'm not 100% positive though. Thats what we were told in school.
  11. That is horrible, I agree to get out of there as fast as you can. I hope your mother recovers. Good for you for calling state to bad they didn't find anything though. Someone else may get hurt. I work in LTC and if I ever caught one of the aids using the hoyer with out 2 people they would be written up on the spot. Hope you find a better facility.
  12. I don't think you read the whole forum before you posted. In case you missed it here it is "JustaPatient" Thanks for the well wishes. I am doing this research because I am also COMPLETELY afraid of needles. It is a phobia I have. I know that it is stupid, and that it only hurts for a sec or two. But I can not help it I FREAK OUT most times. __________________
  13. i only have one thing to add to what the others have said never say i don't know, say i will look that up for you. no matter who asks you the question (instructor, dr., family, patient, etc) tell them you will find out it makes them see you as more competent and friendly. good luck:)
  14. My mother told me that she heard 20 years ago (she's a CNA) that a person's ears curl backward when they are toward the end. She says it sets in even before mottling does. I guess being new and haven't yet experienced many deaths that I have not noticed it. She says in almost every person she has seen pass this has happened. Has anyone else heard of this? Do you know what causes it?
  15. When I did clinical while in school someone would go to O.B for the day. When it was my turn I found out there was a doctor who refused to participate in circs and some of the nurses also. That was their right and the hospital agreed that they didn't have to participate. After I watched what was done I made up my mind that I would have no part of it in the future. I had to leave the room. I personally think if the parents saw how it was actually done then most would decide against it. I know I would have never put my little boy through that if I would have seen what it was like. None of the Dr's pressure one way or the other but the ones who wouldn't participate let the parents know they would not be the ones doing the procedure. If asked why then they would tell their side of the story (only when asked). This was a very small community and the O.B was also the pediatrician.
